Question about Mitsubishi WS-65809 65" Rear Projection Television

Convergence is off - Blue and Red are fine Green will not line up

My Mits WS-65857 is an older TV but worked flawlessly until now. The Convergence is off, I am very aware you can adjust the RED and BLUE Lamp by remote but I can't get them to line up witht the fixed GREEN lamp. How can I adjust the GREEN or is there something else I can do?

    Greg,

Thanks for the comments but I know how to adjust the Convergence and have attempted to do so but the Red and Blue line up and I can not get them to line up with the green as it is beyond the adjustment max for both the blue and the red. I don't know how but the "Fixed Green" lamp is off. Any other ideas or to I shim it manually?

On most units, the Green is constant and the Red and Blue are adjustable. Here are 2 links on how to manually adjust the convergence. There is a menu option using the remote control. Once there, you will find step by step procedure on how to adjust the convergence. Hope this helps answer your question. All the best!

If you're comfortable working with a soldering iron and working inside the television, you can take off the back and look at the main circuit board. Sometimes a bad solder joint will cause an IC (that's what the different color guns/lamps are called) to fail. If you'd like to repair the IC's yourself, there's an excellent online article on how to do it here:

    http://cmpalmer.blogspot.com/2006/11/fix...

The prior links are intended for those who think they can only use the Auto Convergence on their sets, it wasn't intended to offend. When Auto and Manual Convergence fail, it's an indication that one or more of the IC's have failed. Since similar repairs cost in the range of $250-400, a lot more people are willing to try to do the repair themselves for well under $100. Best lof luck with your convergence issue.

Ws-65611

you have convergence menus
Activate ……..MENU-2-1-5-9

Coarse Green Tilt
Coarse Red & Blue Tilt
the TV should have a Crosshatch or convergence signal

green done first to make it level
then blue and red to match the green

be carefull not to change any other setting other than the Tilt; because you can really mess up your convergence

if the menu adjustments dont do this for you:

you have a light box assembly inside the set that has the Red, Green and Blue Guns mounted on it: it can be mis alaigned as a whole causing what you are discribing. Also, you have a mirror that relects the guns onto the back of your screen: less likely but it could be misaligned..

Just be carefull not to touch any of the following:
wires, circuits, circuit boards, heat sinks, and especially the three Big wires that go to the 3 picture tubses... they have high voltage
the heat sinks could also be live .. Just be carefull !

make sure you have really good lighting and room to work and you should be able to fix this without a problem.

MITS WS-65869 The green CRT is creating a warped image.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2

Another common problem is dull or washed out video.
Your TV may have one or more of the following symptoms....
  • Dull looking picture
  • White looking picture
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix here

Sounds like possible solder connections on the convergence ICs. If so, you will see the red, green, and blue not lining up on ever input and even the mits menu. If you can bump it to correct, its just a solder connection, but if its out all the time then the ICs need replaced. This is a difficult repair only recommended for skilled technicians (40 solder connections + possible re-alignment needed)

HD issues with ws-55805

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Mits 55908 Convergence problem

Good Day, John;
It sounds like the Convergence IC's have poor solder connections, by re-soldering the convergence output IC's should solve your problem. The IC's are large and mounted to large silver "heat sink" with STK 392 # on them. Good Luck, big IRISH.
