try pluggin an external monitor to the laptop. If you see the screen then your filament ribbon might need repair or replace.

I believe the Centrino Duo steps the processor down to save energy when unplugged. Try restarting the computer with it plugged in (if it isn't plugged in now). You might be able to change or disable this function in the power management program if this turns out to be the issue.

Hi there.
This could be a problem with the system memory.
Take the battery out and the AC power, turn the laptop over and look for a panel with screws on it, unscrew the panel and you should see something like this >>>>>>>>>

Unclip the memory by pushing the little lugs outwards and the memory should pop up ready to be taken out, get a clean dry paintbrush and clean the memory and the slots.
If you have more than one stick of memory just put one of them back and try booting the laptop up.
If one works try the other and see how you get on.

IWhen I turn ON my laptop first time HP Compaq nc6000, sometimes the orange LED will just light up and nothing happens, sometimes when I get lucky I will be able to goto Windows. when start work properly.
