Question about GE Washing Machines

1 Answer

My Washing Machine fills and drains at the same time, what can i do? I have just about the same problem. We had put in a new drain line for my washer. This new line has been on for over a month W/O any probs. Now then all of the sudden last week my washer started fillining and draining at the same time during the rinse cycle after do a load of wash the 1st time w/o any probs. This week same thing again. 1 load no probs at all then second load right after 1st it starts filling and draining at the same time during rinse cycle. The drain on the inside is above the washer and goes threw the wall outside. Outside underground on a angle then to a seperate septic tank for my washer water so it don't fill up my septic. Could this be a siphon prob where i need to put a siphon valve or that my washer needs repair?

well i don't see any pinched area in the hose attached to the pipe that goes outside. Like I said b4 the new drain line outside was ran underground on an angle so it is lower outside but on the inside the washer hose is above the washer machine(btw my washer is located in my basement). Unless I just do only 1 load then w8 awhile then do another maybe that will do until we come up with a solution to this problem. We honestly didn't think about siphoning probs when we ran this and my husband is a plumber (lol) thx for replying so quickly glad to know that my washer didn't need repair it's old but reliable.

Yes, it is a siphon problem.
Check the hose where it goes through the wall. It may be pinched and cutting off air.
If air cannot enter the hose it will siphon. If the hose is too low it will siphon.

LG WF-8071TTP drum fills 3/4 and then drains unexpectedly

Either a main control board or you have a drain line problem causing the water to siphon out. If you house drain is lower than the washer water fill line or if your drain hose is sealed into the house drain line then you can have the water siphoned out of your washer. Check to make sure the drain line is not to far into your house drain pipe and that there is air around the drain hose where it enters the drain pipe, (not sealed tightley). If it is not the drain siphoning then you need a technician to diagnose the main control board and to replace it. Good Luck Appliance Specialists

Machine keeps filling and draining simultaneously nonstop

You have a syphon problem . This happens when the drain hose is too tightly into the drain pipe . Remove the drain hose from the pipe and put maybe a pencil or piece of copper tubing between hose and pipe ( or get a syphon break from home depot , or an appliance parts store ) . This will let air into the line , so syphoning will not occure when filling . Undisolved soap can cause this problem , by sealing the end of the drain hose as it splatters out into the drain , or some people will tape the end of the hose to the drain pipe , trying to keep the drain from backing up out of pipe ( mistake ) .

A used washer I am trying to hook up . . I have the drain hose going into the floor drain. The washer fills while at the same time draining. So it never really fills enough.

Washing machines need to be drained into a standpipe. This is a drain that is about 36" off the floor. The drain line on your washer will work fine if you have it installed in a standpipe.
by putting it down into a floor drain, you're not going to allow the machine to fill. The stand pipe will allow your machine to fill and still pump the water out during spin cycle.

Make sure there's a drain hose with a hook on the top.

The washer will not drain or spin

more than likely the pump needs replacing, first of all remove the outlet drain hose from the the place it discharges and lower it into a bucket, this should allow it to syphon away, you may need to empyt the bucket a few times once the machine is empty you should be able to put it on its spin cycle once it has spun locate and remove the filter to remove any objects or lint, fill machine with warm water and try to drain and spin via the programme,if this do not work fit a new pump

Washer keeps filling w/ water, only stops when changed to spin

Your drain line is too low.
OR the drain line is restricting air where it enters the drain stand pipe.
Remove the drain line and hold it up high.
Turn the washer on to fill. It should fill then stop.
This example should explain what you must do to correct the drain line problem.

Whirlpool washer fills, begins to agitate, then drains

Water siphoning out the drain line
If the water is continues to fill and water is draining while it is filling or agitating, Check the height of the stand pipe. It should be about 36" above the floor. If the height is correct it may need to have an anti-siphoning valve installed into the drain line.
moz-screenshot.jpgThe washer fills and drains at the same time only on the rinse cycle.
Shut the machine off with timer during this period and raise the drain hose. If the water continues to drain, you will need to install an anti-siphon kit.

Whirlpool Ultimate Care II Quiet Wash - Wash Cycle not holding water

Since your washer worked fine while in Germany and now is exhibiting this problem at your new home, you may want to double check how it was installed. I suspect you may have a problem known as "siphoning". The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r587481-prevent_washer_siphoning

This could be a simple situation where the drain line on the washer is not installed correctly. There are minimum height and length requirments on the drain line. In addition, make sure the stand pipe you have the drain hose inserted in has a proper air gap to allow draining. All of this is explained in the link provided.

I hope this information is helpful to you. The majority of the situations arise from improper installation and is not an operaitonal problem with the washer. If, however, you double check everything and still have problems, please post back and let me know.
