Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

Dell Latitude shuts down.

I have a Dell Latitude 600, that boots up, but at no specific time shuts down. There are no errors, and it appears as if you shut the power off. It's an older model running win 98,750 processor.

What are you doing when it shuts down?
    Sounds like it's random.
One thing you might try is to look at the event log to see if you can determine what app or system process is failing.
Do you get any message before it shuts down? This brings to mind a virus that circulated a number of years ago that gave you an RPC error message and then shut down.

Here is an MS site that will help you to diagnose the problem.
A link to a great windows support site with access from there to the windows universe at large., and the aumha shutdown troubleshooter for your system.
In general, many of the problems such as you describe are caused by failing hardware or driver conflicts, but without more diagnostic info any ventured guess would be a wild one. As you know, even these older systems can be infected with malware, and that too can cause this type of behavior, but better to work through the sequence given above before assuming you need to do malware removal. If, in the end, that is what's required, I normally recommend these protocols, but you'll have to check to see if they'll work on your OS. In that case, the aumha forums might also be of some assistance, as there are a lot of 'old timers' over there.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

My laptop d 600 dell just gives no signal on the monitor then gives a minute to turn off and then it shuts itself down what's wrong with it thank you

Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it could be faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you. Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.

Dell Latitude D410 - OS won't boot only after a few minutes

Seeing that both OS's (Windows XP and Ubuntu) are having a problem booting up, I also think the problem is with your HDD. I think you have a pretty good idea about computers from your use of terms :) There may be some corruption with the HDD. I would check that out first.
Good luck with your problem and thanks for using FixYa.com!!

Cannot read disk

"A disk read error occured press Ctrl+Alt+del to restart " FOLLOW THE BELOW INSTRUCTIONS TO RUN DELL DIAGNOSTIC ON INTERNAL HDD Open the Dell Diagnostics on either your hard drive (F12) or from the Resource (Drivers and Utilities) CD. Running from the hard drive is the preferred method of using the diagnostics. If problems occur when running from the hard drive or there is no Utility Partition, the diagnostics can be run from Resource (Drivers and Utility) CD. From your hard drive: Shut down and restart the computer. When the DELL® logo appears, press immediately. If you wait too long and the Microsoft® Windows® logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Then shut down your computer and try again. When the boot device list appears, highlight ?Boot to Utility Partition? on desktop systems or ?Diagnostics? on portable systems and press . Note: On portable systems, PSA will be executed first. When PSA completes, press any key to load the Dell Diagnostics.? Go to step 2. NOTE: If you receive a message stating that no Diagnostics utility partition has been found, follow the instructions on the screen to run the Dell Diagnostics from your Resource (Drivers and Utilities) CD. From the Drivers and Utilities CD ResourceCD: Insert the Drivers and Utilities CD into the CD drive. Shut down and restart the computer. When the DELL® logo appears, press immediately. If you wait too long and the Microsoft® Windows® logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Then shut down your computer and try again. NOTE: This feature changes the boot sequence for one time only. On the next start-up, the computer boots according to the devices specified in the system setup program. When the boot device list appears, highlight IDE CD-ROM and press . Select Boot from CD-ROM option from the CD boot menu. Select Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics numbered list. If multiple versions are listed, select the version appropriate for your platform. Go to Step 2. After the Dell Diagnostics loads, the Main Menu appears. Click the button of the option you want. If a problem is encountered during a test, a message will display the error code and a description of the problem. Write down the error code and problem description and follow the instructions on the screen. If you can not resolve the error condition, contact Dell. If you run a test from the Custom Test or Symptom Tree option, click the tabs above the right window for more information: When the tests are completed, if you are running the Dell Diagnostics from the Drivers and Utilities CD, remove the Drivers and Utilities CD. Close the screen to return to the Main Menu screen. To exit the Dell Diagnostics and restart the computer, close the Main Menu screen. Regards Sunil Dsouza
