How can i use windows vista with a cannon eos 300d

Found out from Canon that if you go into menu on camera and find 'communication' and then change "normal" to PTP then it will work with a vista OS

Hi Found best solution is not to even try and hook up camera to a Vista PC but instead to use a card reader and download onto prefered softeware on PC.

it is a miscellanous error and may be caused by installing a non cannon lens. Remove the battery and reinstall to see if this clears the problem

My Digital Camera, EOS 300D, Digital Rebel EOS 5D is not compatible with my new Windows Vista. I can't download my images.

There are two was around this:
1) Get an external USB card reader - I recommend this, because it is faster and does not require any software updating
2) Download the latest EOS Utility from the Canon web site; you also need to download the latest drivers. The cameras you name are supported by Vista, but the original software isn't.

There are plenty of FREE photo editors available on the Internet. If you have a USB cable, you can connect your PC and camera -- and copy pictures from the memory card to your hard drive. Let me know if you need more detailed instructions.
BTW, two pretty good FREE photo editors are:

GIMP
Picasa (by Google)

My computer is not recognising my EOS 20D!

Hi I have exactly the same problem. I'm running Windows Vista Business as the OS and have installed the disk that came with the camera with no avail.

It keeps recognising it as a scanner, but I cannot open the pics. I've tried different cables as well. No use.

Installation problem on vista

This solution works. I spent a lot of time on the Canon site trying to download a driver for Windows Vista. It was all wasted. Thanks for the help.

Zoom Browser doens't work on my Windows Vista with my EOS 350 D.
You can use Paint for downloading the pictures, that works on my Laptop. But it takes too much time. It is boring. Canon doesn't do a good job.

What's causing my Canon Rebel XT EOS to write files into separate folders - and how do I fix it? My Canon Rebel XT EOS is writing each photo to its own folder instead of grouping by 100s as it used to. I then have to manually erase each one, too - can't delete them all at once once I've transferred them to my laptop. Any suggestions?
