Question about Audio Players & Recorders
(TEAC single cassette deck v-377)No sound comes from dec when play button is pressed. Tape winds ok. Have checked all leads etc.., tried different tapes and cleaned heads. The problem appeared suddenly without warning the last time I tried listening to a tape. Dec has not had excessive use and is probably about seven years old.
This sounds like the shorted 10 V electrolytic capacitor symptom.
A technician will need to find the shorted capacitor and replace it with the same value but a good 16 V cap. The 10 V caps were known to fail a lot in some equipment.

First check the wires going to the tape heads make certain they are connecting. If good follow them and see if they go to any micro switches, if still no joy keep following the leads to the PC board. The best way to test is to poke around and see if you get any buzz on any of the pre-amp parts. Work back from the output sockets of the deck to where the head wires join. If you get a buzz after and not before you have located the faulty stage.
Don't touch the power supply parts!
