Question about HP Pavilion dv9628nr Notebook

Computer wont turn on

When i plug in my DV9628NR, the light connecting the power cord to the laptop comes on just fine, but the charging light doesn't come on, and the laptop wont turn on, no matter how long i charge it. I didn't know if this might be the battery or another problem, but I thought I'd ask before I went and spent the money on a new one. Thanks.

I have tried to take the battery out and turn the computer on, and it doesn't turn on. I don't own another power cord, but I don't think it would be too difficult to find one. The battery is about a year and a half old, and the computer has been almost constantly on for that period of time. I had no problems with the computer before this.

Since you have already removed the battery, I would rule it out for now. However, you could check on the power supply by using a voltmeter, as suggested by byteguy or check out purchasing a new power adapter in the case that you don't have a voltmeter. I would probably purchase one someplace where if it was not a faulty p/s, I could return (without having a 15% restocking fee). Keep us posted.

I would see if I could try and test it with another power cord. When you remove the battery does it come on when it's plugged in? It should if everything else is working OK. If the battery doesn't charge, that would be the battery. Do you have means to test out another cord?

Did you take the battery out, check it's connectors and reinsert it it? Make sure it is in tight. How old is the battery? Most just last a little over a year or two.

You can check the power adapter by using a voltmeter to see how many volts the adapter is putting out. If it's within normal limits (should be about 18 volts if memory serves correctly--although the voltage should be listed on the adapter), then you are looking at a motherboard problem. Even if the battery is no longer able to hold a charge, the computer should still start. Sounds to me like it just quit all of a sudden.
So--first check your voltage.
Then check e-bay for a used motherboard. If you are not inclined to work on a laptop to this extent, you will probably be further ahead to buy a new or reconditioned one.

Let me know if you need further info.

Hi thanks for using fixya!

May I ask, how many years now is your laptop?

Try to remove the battery, and use the AC adapter instead, connect it to your laptop, check if its going to have a power. Turn it on. If its turning on and working normally, then the problem is your battery, you have to purchase compatible and original battery. If its not working while it is connected to the AC adapter, check if the adapter is supplying power, because maybe the problem is with the AC adapter.

If you need further assistance, let me know.

Why wont my lap top come on

Hello there.
There's a chance that it's a problem with the battery. But we do need to run some tests to determine the cause of the problem.
1. Kindly make sure the wall outlet is working by plugging inanother device like a TV or lamp, just to check if power is coming through it just fine. 2. Turn off the laptop completely. Unplug all the cables connected to the laptop, including the power cord then remove the battery. 3. Plug the power cord back to the outlet(without the battery inserted) then press and hold the power button on the laptop for 10 seconds. Then check if it would turn on. If it does then it means the problem is with the battery and it needs to be replaced or you can try to charge the battery again with the laptop turned off.
It would also help if you can give me the complete brand/model of the laptop.
Have a nice day.

You have a DC connector problem:

Symptoms of a broken power jack
1. If you wiggle the power cord or the AC Adapter connector on the back of the laptop, the power LED and battery charge LED start to flicker.
2. Battery will not charge in the laptop.
3. Laptop runs fine off a charged battery.
4. With the AC Adapter connected the laptop appears to be dead.
No power LED or battery charge LED activity.
5. Laptop randomly powers off without any warning.

If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by re-soldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it

There is no power from the battery or the adapter and the laptop does not recognise the adapter is plugged in. there are no lights coming on and the power button is doing nothing

Your battery maybe out of charge. Thats why nothing happens when you press the power button. The battery may not be charging because the power cord might not be working. Try another power cord.

Try removing the battery and plugging the power cord and switching on the computer. If its the problem with the power cord the computer wont start. If it starts, the power cord is working fine.

shut down computer - unplug power cord from laptop - remove the battery from laptop - plug Ac adapter into computer and Ac outlet (wall)
turn on computer
if computer does not turn on, replace the AC adapter and cord - then place battery back into computer
plug in new Ac adapter and cord - recharge battery - if orange light stays on after 4-6 hours of charging battery, you need new battery as well - replace battery, charge it up and it should be fine

if you have attempted these steps before and no change occurs, then you may have issue with power connection in computer - locate a service centre to replace power connection on computer

Psp carge light wont come on and psp wont turn on

You either have a bad battery, or a bad power supply that charges the unit (power cord). If you have a friend that also has a PSP, try swapping out the battery to see if that works, and or try another power cord to see if the charging indicator light comes on. I think that possibly your battery is dead and the power cord might be bad. You can find good deals for both the battery and cord on ebay. Good luck!
