Hi

Please try this to clear the error code--

  • Open the CanoScan Toolbox.
  • Click the Save option.
  • Put a check in the box that states "Display the Scanner Driver".
  • Click Scan.
  • Click the Advanced Mode tab.
  • Make sure Select Source is set to "Platen".
  • Click the Preview button at the top left.
  • If the error still occurs, then most likely it will be a service issue.
Check if the inside lamp illuminates when you turn the scanner on using the power button at the back left side of the scanner. If not then there is a loose/faulty FAU cable(cable which comes out of the back of the scanner and into the lid). Try to jiggle it a bit to check if it works. If it doesn't work then one, or more, of the eight wires within this cable has fractured and unless you are handy with fine wires and a soldering iron, it's off to the scanner shop.

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

I tried everything. I unplugged the machine and moved the printer cartridges to the far left and cleaned and pressed down the spring loaded sponge on the right, over and over again. I also moved the springloaded thing (w/white plastic) forward and backward. Another suggestion was to move the print cartridge holder back and forth sideways. None of these things helped. And there was nothing visibly out of place. I was stumped. Then I found a thread that suggested Windex!!! Even though the error seemed to correlate with a paper jam that had occurred, I was ready to try anything. I got paper towels and windex (I didn't have an eye dropper). I sprayed the paper and cleaned where the cartridges normally sit. Nothing. In desperation I sprayed each pad below the cartridge in the middle area and I sprayed the "sponge" thingy to the right. Really soaked it. Cycled the on/off about 3 times and IT WORKS! (Fingers are black but that's a minor issue compared to unhooking and transporting and waiting and paying for service...) When you cycle the Windex through it soaks up the sticky dried up ink and cleans things up. Don't use other cleaners--use Windex or water.

Thanks

Canon PIXMA MP830 Error Message: Scanner is not operating correctly.

This problem sucks. It sounds like the scanner has actually gone bad. This can be a couple of things. The actual ccd unit inside the scanner, a position sensor, a motor or a wire harness.

The latter two are fairly unlikely, the first two more likely. Most probable is the CCD unit. I don't think Canon sells it as a separate piece, but it comes inside a replacement scanner assembly. These complete scanner units are expensive. You'll have to check with your local Canon shop to see what they cost.
