Cambridge amps do not come fitted with the OPTIONAL phono preamp. At present you are plugging it into the AUX option hence why you get no/quiet rubbish sound. You can buy an external one or purchase the correct cambridge one to fit internally.

Does the Cambridge amp have a "phono stage" fitted?. It was optional on some amps.

Recently bought 2nd hand Cambridge Soundworks D-300 SE CD player. Wording on control buttons all worn off - don't know which button does what. Player will only play the 1st track on each CD, then stop

See http://img.canuckaudiomart.com/uploads/large/367658-cambridge_d300se_cd_player__excellent_condition.jpg for a picture of the front of the D300 SE to see which button does what. The 'first track only' issue could be for many reasons. Try cleaning the CD player lens and also checking the metal rods (slides) the laser runs on for debris. Really helpful and detailed instructions on CD player troubleshooting and maintenance are here http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/cdfaq.htm#cdgicl

I lost the treble on both Alesis Monitor 1 speakers. The treble is good on the amp output toward the speakers. I'm thinking they went out one at a time and I didn't realize it until I lost the...

It's probably blown tweeters. But if you want to spend the money on a hipshot guess, try to find the the crossovers somewhere first; then find the readily available tweeters if/when that doesn't work out. Google "alesis monitor one MK2 tweeter".

You could test the tweeters by just removing one non-functional tweeter and wiring it directly to the speaker leads and with REALLY LOW volume containing NO BASS see if it makes any sound, which would prove it does/does not work.

Going forward, if the speakers sound stressed at high volume - THEY ARE. Too much power or too much distortion (overdriven amplifier) will kill speakers.

Adjust "Balance" to center. If at center, something more serious in amp.

No Volume For My Music Hall MMF-5 Turtable

You will need to obtain a phono preamp to connect between the deck and the amplifier. I do not think this turntable is fitted with its own preamp - check the User Guide.

I purchased my Denon AVR-987 about 16 months ago from Circuit city and did not purchase the extended warranty. I has been working fine, until just recently, The on button blinks, then turns off...

In all likelyhood, there is a problem with one of the surround amplifiers. With the volume really low, there is no current draw in the amp section. This unit requires service. Expect a parts cost in the $20-$40 range. Add in the local labor rate for the total cost.

Fluctuation in sound output on Cambridge Soundworks 5.1 speakers

Hi Paulus
A lot brand of speakers, like Sound Blasters, Logitech, Cambridge, has this (strange) kind of volume problem, sometimes, is the resistor, in the volume control, sometimes in the modulator for the board on the sound speakers, Subwofer.
I use a general tip is let the volume in one setting and don't move in the intermediate low volume say....9 .
from other thing, be change the speakers.
