Speakman shower faucet washer replacement

How do I remove valve stem from Speakman 2 handle shower faucet (1960's vintage) to replace washer? After removal of packing nut, stem unscrews but does not come out.

Keep unscrewing, to the left. Past the point that would normally be the full "on" position for the valve. I've just removed my Speakman Kent shower stem, and because it is damaged where the washer attaches, will have to replace it (both of them).

There may be two nuts, one for the stem and one for the stem barrel.if not then the stem does just screw out,may just have a build up of something on it,try and working it back and forth to try and break it loose, careful not to damage anything.

Before replacing parts, check the diverter for corrosion that prevents free operation.

Thermostatic valve does not turn

followt this steps and fix it. God bless you
  1. Turn off the water supply and open the faucet handle to relieve water pressure.
  2. Carefully pry off the trim cap with a small screwdriver or putty knife.
  3. Remove the locknut with an adjustable wrench, then lift the spindle out of the faucet.
  4. As needed, remove and replace the O-ring. Before reinstalling, coat the stem lightly with plumber's grease.
  5. As needed, remove the retaining screw and pry out the washer. Install an exact-replacement washer and tighten it.
  6. As needed, inspect the seat and replace if damaged.
  7. Install the valve and tighten, then reinstall the handle and test.

All the faucets except my shower have hot water why doesn't my shower have hot water

your video doesn't show much of your shower for very long, but at a guess i'd say you have separate hot cold taps, in which case always turn on hot first then carefully turn on cold to ensure there's no issue with water pressure. if there no hot water running at all the hot water valve is faulty

When I turn the knob that directs the water from the tub faucet to the shower, half of the water goes to the shower head, and the rest still goes out of the faucet to the tub. How do I get the water to go...

just like the shut off valves, the washers need to be replaced on the "third" handle. sometimes you will need to replace the "seat" as well. this requires a special tool to remove.

you will have to remove the handle and trim, and remove the valve stem.

if you can't remove, or don't feel comfortable, call a handyman. should only take about 20 minutes to replace all the washers. be sure check the "seats" too.

Leaky single lever bath tub faucet

Faucet is leaking due to seats bad.

1- Turn water off first and remove handle and remove collar that holds stem and remove it..

2- in valve there are seats that looks like caps they may be in valve body or the end of stem itself.

3- Remove them and the springs and replace them this will take care of the leaking problem.

Water leaks from my cold water and hot water shower handles (separate) whether the water is on or not. How can I fix this?

turn the water off! at the meter and go buy a faucet seat removal tool its L shaped with square heads on each end also buy a faucet valve socket to remove the faucet stems after you take the knobs and unscrew the trim housings once you unscrew the faucets stems there inside the hole deep is 2 brass seats that you need to remove and change put the new seats in and replace the washers on the stems and reassemble

Kitchen taps drip and leak.I do not want to replace with new but would like to sort these problems.

dependent on the type of faucet, you need to replace (a) the washers, (b.) the spring and seals or (c.) the gasket. They all serve the same purpose. 1. turn off the water supply to the faucet. 2. double handle? (a)remove the center cap (b) then remove the screw holding the handle down (c)next unscrew the valve stem retaining nut (normally it is the one right above the faucet body). (d) pull the valve stem out, if there is a small rubber piece held down by screw remove the screw, replace the washer. if there is a rubber gasket wrapped around the stem, remove and replace it, if nothing is on the stem look into the faucet body you should see 1 or 2 small rubber pieces these are the seals the springs are right below the seals. Remove and replace springs and seals. 3. single handle? remove the handle retaining screw, normally covered by hot/cold indicator symbol, unscrew valve stem retaining nut, pull the valve stem and replace either the gasket or springs and seals.

First determind what side is dripping(hot/cold) then turn off water to entire house unless you have separate shutoff for shower behind wall. take a screw driver remove handle then use channel lock pliers to remove stem on the bottom side of the stem there will be a screw with a rubber washer on it you must remove the screw and replace the washer them re assemble Oh go to home depot and buy a the assorted pack of washer for faucets and stems find one that fits the pack cost about 4.99 best to change both rubber seal washer on hot and cold sinc e you have the water off

Cold water shower handle rotates to off postion but does not turn off water supply

It sounds as though the handle might be turning on the stem or most likely the washer is worn out. You have to turn the water off at the faucet or to the property. Remove the handle and then procede to remove the stem. Sometimes you have to have a special hex wrench to remove the stem. The washer will be at the end of the stem. While you have the stem pulled, I would remove and replace the seat as well which requires a seat wrench to remove it. That's pretty much it. It's not real hard if you have the proper tools to do it. But sometimes it can be a real pain. Good luck!

There is a thin stream of water coming out from under the shower handle of my washer-type faucet whether the shower is on or off. What is the problem and how can I fix this please?

Turn off the water, remove the handle, escuchion, and stem.
Replace all washers/O-rings. If it is a plastic stem, replace the stem.

The seals are worn, allowing water to pass by.

On some really old valves, the actual metal walls of the valve eventually get worn, and washer replacement does not completely solve the problem, or last long. In that event, replacing the valve is about the only option.
