Question about Craftsman 42 in. Deck 19.5hp Lawn Tractor

Not getting enough gas to the carb have to run choke 3/4 engaged

Will not run properly unless the choke is about 3/4 of the way pulled out. new plugs,new air breather, new fuel filter, gas tank taken off and cleaned out, gas lines blown out, tried to run without fuel filter no difference. just had the carb overhauled last year ( 2008 for the 3rd time ). The other times the carb was worked on gas would literally squirt out of the carb. Dave Feldewerth

    After cleaning the carb out for about the 6th time, plus getting the carb "repaired" 3 times at a $125.00 per time, I have found the solution.

    About 2 miles from my home there is a quarry that hasn't been used for years. I shoved the mower over the edge. I will not be aggravated by this piece of **** again. Thanks for trying anyway.

Sounds like a restriction in your carb, not getting enough gas. I would clean out the carb again.

Echo GT225 has new carb.but will not run without 3/4 choke lines clean spark arrester cleaned, new plug, good compression ,tank vent replaced ? stumped

New carb is supposed to run fine with no choke at all. But I have 2 instances where the new carb would run for sh-- unless I left choke setting at mid point. Went crazy cleaning out new carb, resetting idle and low and high mixture screws to no avail. But both were running great and and gas consumption was fine with that choke setting. Left well enough alone. both start and run great. You might want to do same.

Gas Trimmer will not stay started

Many times with a gas mix, after sitting for a while, the mix separates and gums up the carb. Taking the carb off and soaking it overnight in a parts or carb cleaner and running carb cleaner through the tank and gas lines will cure this.

Start up after sitting long time

After sitting a long time
1. drain all gas as alchol in gas absorbs water BAD!!!
2 mix new gas + oil correctly and fill tank
3 spray starting fluid in carb.
4 put full choke
5 set throttle
6 pull till engine pops
7 place choke to half choke and pull a few times to start
8 repeat steps 3 to 8 until running

Other problems are bad gas lines
problem with spark

Bottom line the engine should at least burn off the starting fluid
if it continues to stop the carb is going to be cleaned

Your Air/Fuel Mixture is wrong.. Your carb is getting too much air and not enough fuel. Have you adjusted the jet screw setting? Does it have one?

Husky generator will not stay running

Let the engine warm up for a couple of minutes and see if it will run with the choke off. I have a couple of small engines which crank well and won't run cold but do OK after I let them warm up a bit.
Normally I would say you have a carb problem with gas not getting from the carb bowl, into the jet and into the engine.
Your engine being new it could still be a problem.
All the air coming into an engine is supposed to come thru the carb. If you have air leaking in from somewhere else then to get the air/fuel correct enough to run you are having to close the choke.
Check for leaks by cranking the engine and doing a quick spray of carb cleaner all around the mounting areas but not near the air intake.
If there is an air leak the engine will respond by changing rpm.
If you don't find an air leak, it's the carb.

Bike sat for 2-3 weeks. Will now start with choke, can give gas on choke but when off choke bike will not run - chokes out when throttle engaged. This is my first bike, no knowledge of engine.....

Carburetor issue. Most likely the pilot jet is plugged in one or both carbs. Remove the carbs as a set, remove the float bowls, remove and clean all of the removeable jets, (do not use wire to clean jets, use carb cleaner or the proper jet drills if you have/know how to use them). Reassemble and reinstall making sure that carbs seat fully in the manifold boots.

The hot side is running way too lean. Have your carbs synchronized may help. Try draining the bowls. Good luck.

If everything you say is true it is flooded. Have you tried the EXACT start procedure from the manual?
My 359 floods in a nano second if I leave the choke engaged once it attempts to start. The only other time it really gave me trouble was one time I failed to set then turn off choke when it was warm. Setting the choke also sets the fast idle. Pulling the starter with choke engaged floods it once it has fired. This should be similar to your Operator's Manual.
Start Procedure
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws); pull starter and listen for an attempt to start. once heard (usually two pulls; no more than 4)
  4. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  5. Push (open) choke pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull)
  1. Ignition on/off to on

  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws) - Don’t pull with choke closed.

My sons 50cc quad wont run properly, it has a auto choke and wot run unless i keep my hand over the air hole

The carb jets are clogged and in need of cleaning,when the jet clog,the engine doesn't provide enough suction to pull the gas through the clog,When you cover the breather hole,you force all of the suction from the piston's decompression stroke to the carb which allows it to **** the gas.

So to make a long story short.The carbs internal parts need cleaning.

Ryobi 790r i have changed the gas line and the primer bulb . the primer will mash in 1 good time and then gets very hard to mash in . i fully choke it and it will crank but only for 3 seconds until it...

You cannot flood the engine by pushing the primer bulb too much, unless the hoses are hooked up backwards. The primer does not push gas to the carb, it sucks gas through the carb and returns it to the tank. Top barb on primer is the hose coming from the return side of the carb and the bottom fitting is the hose going to the return fitting on the tank. Look inside tank, it is the one without the filter on it, just a flange with a hole in the center.

If you can see gas and air bubbles moving through the primer and into the tank the hoses are on correctly. If you see bubbles going in the correct direction and then reversing when you remove your finger from the bulb, then the check valves in the primer may be bad. Replace primer.

When you say the primer "gets hard to mash", do you mean it is hard to push in or is it very slow to refill and return to the home position? If it is hard to push in and the bulb is full of gas and the hoses are on correctly then there must be a plug in the line going to the tank or the vent in the gas cap is not working. If it does not return, then it is most likely a plugged filter, plugged line from the tank to the carb, plugged screen inside the carb or a stuck needle valve. The primer is creating a slight vacuum to pull the gas through the carb, which is what the carb does when the engine is running. If there is a full or partial restiction on the supply circuit neither the primer nor the carb can pull enough gas for the engine to run. May need to disassemble carb and clean out any varnish, gunk or plugged ports/jets. Use spray carb cleaner. May want to think about a diaphagm and gasket kit if you do it yourself. If you do not feel confident in taking apart the carb, then take to a repair shop.
