Yard Machine posessed by devil

I broke the belt for the blades and replaced in. I had to drop the deck to get the belt on. Not 10 mns later I was mowing and felt a jolt in the machine and now when I turn the key the motor sounds different. I sounds like something isn't catching, kind of like it's loosely free spinning, almost like another belt broke somewhere.

This is my first rider, I don't know about repairing them, never had the opportunity. I took out the spark plug and it looks kind of bad, but I don't know if a bad plug will just stop the rider mid mowing.

HELP! I think my rider is posessed!

    Hi longhorn294!

Yes it spins for a couple secs and comes to a full stop.

  • lordazzo13 May 23, 2009

When I put my hand flat on the screen and turn there is resistance, but I can still turn it. It turns but then in a sec comes to a stop. It does not spin freely, it resists my attempt to spin and comes to a stop a couple inches later.

  • lordazzo13 May 24, 2009

Well, it does not spin freely and evenly like a top.

If I turn the engine it starts to move but there is resistance about every revolution, not steadily worsening, just the same.

If I spin it by turning it with my hand it will stop itself, but if I go to spin it again it's the exact same scenario. I'm sorry if I can't describe it well.

Also, while I was mowing I heard a thump and I thought I ran over something, when I went to restart it reeved without turning over. Just a continual spinning noise without that sound where you know it's gonna start eventually.

Does the mower have a Kohler engine on it?

  • Dwain Pippen May 11, 2010

Well, without being able to actually see it myself, it's hard to put a finger on what has happened. It could be a number of things from a broken rod to a failure in the valve train, etc. My best suggestion is to take it to a good shop and have it checked out. It my prove to be something minor. That;'s about all the help I can give you like this. Sorry, wish I had a solution for you. Dwain

Ok. What I'm asking is if you feel any resistance while turning the engine by hand through a couple of revolutions. Does it feel the same all the way around or is there a spot every revolution that it get harder to turn from compression. I'm trying to determine if your rod is still attached to the crank or not.

  • Dwain Pippen May 11, 2010

One more question... Can you put your hand on the screen and turn the engine freely without feeling any resistance through at least a couple of revolutions?

  • Dwain Pippen May 11, 2010

If you open the hood and watch the engine turn as you crank it, does it spin fast and when you release the key, does it keep spinning for a couple of seconds?

look under the mower and see if the drive belt has come off of any pulleys. sometimes they will have a stick get in there and the belt will come off and it wont move. also be sure it hasn't broke.

My lt1000 craftsman riding mower belt broke. I bought a new one and can not seem to find the manual to see how to replace it. Can you show me a diagram please?

On your mower, lift up the seat and you will find a silver sticker with numbers on it. There is a 9 or 10 digit model number. It will look like 123.456789 Go to and input your model number and perform a "model" search. I am assuming that the belt you are referring to is the deck belt. Go to the deck section and you will see a basic pattern of what shape the belt will have when installed. There are 2 kinds of pulleys on your deck...V-groove & flat side. The v-groove pulleys go on the inside of the belt, the flat side will go on the outside of the belt.

If the mower is more than 3 or 4 years, it is probably a good idea to replace the drive belt(s) also.

Good luck.

G-110 deck belt keeps jumping off pulleys

check for a broken belt tension er or maybe grass clippings under belt area, check for a broken or loose pulley bearing, even a bent shaft on the deck.
