If it is only fogged you can blow hot air on the lens while fully zoomed in and after the water has evaporated, zoom out to compress the moist air out. do this several times.

Might be that the aperture is stuck and you need to get the lens repaired (might cost more than a new lens.) Or it might just be bad contacts. Clean the contacts and try another lens before asking Canon or dismantling the lens.

Hi I have used my canon camera eos 400d with the 17-85 mm canon lense for nearly 2 years. Since last week i am encouttering the error 99 < replace the battery and try again>.I did this...

The lens most probably has dirty contact between the lens and camera body. It only worked with the "default" lens because you disturbed the dirt removing the 17-85 lens.

Here is what I'm suggesting, seeing you said the problem was solved by changing out the lens.

Clean the contact both on the lens and camera body with a pencil eraser, hold the camera body so the lens cavity is pointed downward and lightly polish the contacts don't use a puffer to clean the area you will just blow dirt into the camera.

Do the same with the lens contacts and you will be good to go

I just purchased a Canon EOS Rebel K2 35 MM film camera body. What lenses are compatible with this camera?

The Rebel K2 has the Canon EF mount. It is compatible with any EF lenses except the EF-S series. It will also work with third-party lenses that are compatible with the Canon EF series.

You can see the entire current line of Canon lenses (including the EF-S series) at

If I buy a Canon EOS 500D body wil my 500n AF lens fit it and operate OK?

All canon EF and EF-S lenses work with 500D /T1i model.(yes all)
If your lens is removed from old 500N body and if it has EF marked it will work for every Digital camera model of canon.
Note: its focal length will be multiplied by 1.6 X factor.
(mean 18 mm lens will become 29mm approx.)
If you find this of help rate me.

Cannon lenses

All canon EF lenses (and compatibles e.g. Sigma EX) can be used with both analog and digital  EOS-bodies. Depending on the sensor size (usually smaller than a 35 mm negative) a crop-factor due to the smaller field of view must be considered.  Example: Canon EF 50mm/1.8 lens used on a digital EOS (40D, crop factor 1.6) equals a 80mm lens (50mm x 1.6) compared to analog cameras using 35mm film. Some digital EOS-models can also use EF-S lens-series.
