Question about Maytag Atlantis MAV6000 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Washer is over filling.

I have a Maytag Atlantis washing machine and my problem is that when i put it into any cycle that needs water the tank just keeps filling. It eventually overfows and leaks all over the floor. Is there a pump i need to clean or a relay that shuts the water off when it gets to a certain level?

The water only runs when I have the washer turned on, water does not enter with washer off. It just seems like the timer doesnt move and it just stays in one spot, while the water is running. I have the front panel of the washer removed so i can see internals. Is there a bad switch or a filter maybe clogged?

Hey it worked sorry for long response has to go somewhere, but when I checked the back of the tub I found that the hose was not on that cup. It was missing the tie down, also i did as you said and blew through it, and yes i could here the switch. I am currently running a load on the mini setting hopefully all goes well. Thank you very much for your help.

Hi, Does water enter the machine when there timer is off or even if the machine is unplugged? If this is the case, the inlet valve needs replaced. If the water stops when the timer is turned off, there is a problem with the water level switch. Please let me know so that I can assist you further. Thanks
Vic

On the side of the tub (usually back side) there is a cup with a hose attached to it. If you can reach the hose and pull it off the cup, blow through it and see if you can hear the level switch click. It should click when you blow into the hose and click when you release the preasure. If it does click, the level switch could be ok.

Another option is something (lint0 could be plugging the hole that the hose fits on.

If you add water to the washer high enough to get the water level over the preasure cup (with the preasure hose off, you should see a small stream of water coming out of the cup.

Please try these ideas so that we can pin point the cause.

    Thanks

My 11 year old Maytag was overflowing, and after reading this post, I opened the top of the machine, located the small black hose (toward the rear of the tub and about 2/3 of the way down) and noticed it had become disconnected from the tub. I blew into it and heard the click in the level switch, so I knew the switch was working. I reconnected the hose and the machine works perfectly once again. Thanks so much!

Won't start

if it filled proplerly and won't start now, it sounds like the door switch is broken, there could be something wrong with the rest of the electrical systems, however i would suggest the switch first. If there is a lot of noise like its trying to run, then its probably your transmission.

Water not filling in tub washer spins,

It sounds as if the timer has failed internally. Spinning on each setting means the motor is not reversing and that reverse function is controlled by the timer itself. It would never fill if it is stuck in spin unless you select rinse and depending on cycle it can inject water in the spin during the final rinse. If your machine does this normally see if it injects water. If it does inject water at that point I am 95 % sure your timer is the problem.

Will not start wash cycle

Sound like the lid switch has went out , you should hear it click when the lid is close to an inch of being closed , they are un-expensive and easy to replace and they go out often from use. Easy to find online with your real model number located under the lid.

The washer with the grind noise is a main bearing going out and may be covered under warr. through maytag.
