Thank you very much, I took the switch out just enough to put some strong tape around the switch housing and it's work great now.

    Thank you,

The switch needs to be adjusted so that is sticks up high enough for the lid to press it down far enough to make contact. You can either loosen the switch mounting and raise the switch or glue something (like the ceiling fan metal tabs with sticky back adhesive on one side) to the lid where it makes contact. When you push on it with the screwdriver, you are merely seating it enough to make contact.

Washer fills up with water but does not start to wash/agitate

if you don't hear the motor running you have a bad lid switch,if you do hear the motor but no agitation you have a broken motor coupling.
most likely you have a broken lid switch, close the lid, then open it around 6 inches, close it and open it a few times,as you do this if you don't hear a clicking sound the switch is bad, part number 8054980 and it's around 25 dollars.

watch this video, when you click on it look down on the left side it will say replacing new style, click on it and it will show you your model.it will show you how to make sure it's the lid switch but if you don't hear any clicking when you open and close the lid the switch is bad, also if the lid is pushed in from putting the laundry basket on top of it open the lid and wack the center of the lid to pop it back up,i've done this before when the lid is dented in and this fixes the problem, the arm that's connected to the lid doesn't hit the switch correctly with the lid dented in but usually the switch is bad and needs to be replaced.

watch the first part of this video and it will show you how to open the top console, this is different from your lid switch this is just to get you into the top so you can change the switch.good luck,if you need anymore help let me know and i hope this helps you out

WASHING MACHINE stopped in mid-cycle

if it stops at the drain and spin cycle check the lid switch, open the lid,set the washer to spin cycle and pull out the timer knob, stick a screw driver into the hole where the strike from the lid goes into and push down,if you don't hear a clicking sound when you push down on the switch in the hole then you have a bad lid switch but if your machine does run sometime it sounds like the switch will work if you push down on it,could be cracked where the screws go into it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5aW9WkTFhE watch video on how to replace it.if you do hear a clicking sound when you open and close the lid or push down with the screw driver you could have a bad timer but check the lid switch first

check the lid switch, open the lid, stick a screw driver into the hole where the strike on the lid closes into, you should hear a clicking sound,no click the lid switch is bad,or close the lid and open it up a few inches and close it down,no clicking sound the switch is bad.you can watch this video and it will show you how to change the switch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5aW9WkTFhEif the part number is 3949247 and the lid switch is around 50 dollars, common problem.if you hear the switch click when you stick the screw driver into the hole set the timer to spin, pull out the timer knob and then stick the screw driver into the hole again,if the switch is engaging it will drain and spin but if it doesn't click change the switch.good luck,if you need anymore help let me know.

It will fill up with water but nothing else

check the lid switch, set the timer on spin, push it in so it will run,get a screw driver or anything that will fit into the hole on the right side, that's the lid switch, the strike on the lid hits it when you close the lid,if the switch is broke it kills the power to the machine,it's a safety so the machine won't run with the lid open, when you push down on the switch you should hear a click and it should spin and drain,if you don't hear a clicking sound the switch is broke,or you can close the lid, lift it up a few inches and close it down,do this a few times, when it closes and opens if you don't hear a clicking sound the switch is bad.part number 3949247 and it's around 45 dollars.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFsvLiuTniU copy and paste,it will show you how to get at the switch.let me know what you find so if someone else has the same problem they will read what you found, thanks

Whirlpool High Capacity washer, start cycle , it fills with water then no agitation, and no spinning.

next time send the model number, open the lid, look on the right side and there should be a hole in the top, that's the lid switch,it's used so the washer won't run if the lid is open for safety reasons, set it to spin and with a screw driver push down on the plastic piece in the hole,if nothing happens push in and release,do this a few times,if you don't hear a clicking sound when you push up and down the switch is bad or close the lid and open it an inch, close it and open it a few times,no clicking sound the switch is bad.

It filled up with water and when I closed the lid it just wouldn't work. I checked all the plugs and fuses and besides all this I have all my clothes in the machine soaking. Help please?

check the lid switch, you could have broke it when you closed the lid.also next time you write send the model number, open the lid,get a screw driver and stick it in the hole on top, that's the lid switch set the timer to spin,or close the lid then open it an inch and close it and open it if you don't hear a clicking sound the lid switch is bad.all the lid switch does is to stop the washer from running with the lid open for safety reasons

Water goes into the machine but the spin cycle don't work

Most washer under the lid you will see a peg of some sort that goes into a slot or hole on top face of washer. That is called a switch. It is designed to be a safety device, so when the washer is on that high speed spin cycle a child or not to smart adult does not open lid when washer is spinning at high speed. The switch is designed to only allow the machine to spin when lid is closed. It appears to me, which happens all the time, is from normal use, that switch might of Went out. Here is what you do to test it. Carefully!, have lid open and put washer on spin cycle and take a flat head screw driver in the slot where lid peg goes and depress screwdriver in slot, and listen as you put it in slot and release it, do it a few times, if you don't hear a clicking sound of like click, click, then switch is out and will not allow washer to spin. Switch then needs to be replaced which is cheap and pretty easy to do your self. With deal with that once you have determined the switch is working or not. Thanks mike

what cycle does it happen in?close the lid and open it a few times, does it make a clicking sound,if it does i would say the switch is good, also you can do this, next time it happens open the lid carefully without banging the machine so you don't disturb anything, get a screw driver and stick it in the hole and see if it runs, if it does i'd say it's the switch, but i've seen this before right before it goes into the spin cycles, the clutch doesn't fall in the tranny. and when the lid is opened and closed the clutch falls.keep an eye on it and see where on the timer this happens, make a mark and see if it does it in the same spot, depending on how hard you close the lid it could be the switch, the timer sticking,i've tapped the timer when something like this happens and it sometimes starts or the clutch in the tranny, when you close the lid did you ever notice if you heard a clunking sound and then it starts to spin..also if you open the top console, unplug the lid switch and stick a jumper wire in the two outside holes of the part you unplug, the lid switch is closest to the right side clip and it's a white connector, you can bypass the switch to check it, all it is is a safety so the machine won't run with the lid open or instead of doing that you can stick a screw driver into the hole and let the machine run like that if you think it's the switch, let me know what you find.

Greetings,
check for a faint click when you close the lid..if you hear no click, paying close attention for sound..the lid switch is most likely bad..on some models..it prevents machine from spinning, but lets it wash..there is a way to get it to spin by hooking switch up direct...this is only good for checking as its a safety feature...raise console after UNPLUGGING and you will see a small block with three wires coming out of cabinet at right corner ...there will be a plug that goes into this with three wires and it comes off by holding a little tab and pulling it off. its this block that you want to make bypass..do not use the green wire as its ground, but make bypass beteen other two wires and it should drain and spin. make sure you tape this with electrical tape and purchase a new lid switch.

open the lid a lttle and close it down a few times,if you don't hear a clicking sound when it closes you have a bad lid switch,or open the lid and stick a screw driver in the hole where the piece on the lid goes down into when the lid is closed, if it doesn't click and the machine doesn't run then the lid switch is bad.,they don't want the machine to run with the lid open when it goes into the spin cycle,if you send the full model number located beneath the lid when it's open on the back panel under the lid.let me know how you make out
