Question about NetGear WGT624 Wireless Router
I bought the Netgear Wgt624 (USB stick included) about 6 months ago. However ever since i disconneted it when the main PC of the house was off for repair I cannot seem to reconnect the router with my Wireless laptop ( Sony vaio VGN-NR11S/S). One would immediately propose. "Go back through the same procedure that got it working in the first place." Two factors won't allow this:
A. The PC monitor is buggered and it'sthe PC i initially set the router up upon.
B. When I put the damn disc(netgear set-up) in my laptop it never allows the set up which appeared on the PC appear. It only takes me through the USB sticks set up. (I should add that once the USB set up is complete it then says something to the effect of "press ok to begin hardware set up....nothing there after happens.)
So I am, to say the least, at my wits end with this so if anyone could help me out I would be most grateful. Thanks
First of all, PUT THE DISK IN THE DRAWER!
Now, plug an ETHERNET cable from one of the 4 ports on the router to you laptop's ETHERNET port and boot up the laptop.
If you have not done anything funny to the laptop, it should get a 192.168.1.x address with the gateway of 192.168.1.1 If it doesn't, you need to either set the network card to "obtain DHCP automatically" or you have no connectivity (evidenced by a 169.xx.xx.xx IP address).
Open up Internet Explorer and type in 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. You will get a screen asking for a USERNAME (admin) and PASSWORD (password), provided that you have not changed them or you wrote them down.
If you don't get any of this, start with the basics. Did you reset the router? Do you have cable company service? How did the laptop work before?
The ugly things that can happen is that you were supposed to clone the MAC address of the main computer that the cable company is looking for onto your router. A simple call to the cable company to "reset" the connection would fix that. If you reset the router, you need to login and follow the username and password, if required, instructions. If you lost your router password, likewise, you need to reset the router.
If none of this works, please post back and we'll try for more fixes.
