Question about ASUS Eee PC 4G Surf

Wireless router connection problem

I am having trouble connecting my EeePC 4G to my Eircom (Ireland) wireless router. I have the WPA key, and have entered it correctly, but the PC just says 'Connection Pending', and does nothing else. Signal strength is 100%. I have 2 other laptops connected to the router, no problems with either. Can anyone help?

Asus 4g will not connect with netgear router using WPA-PSK Protected access Pre-shared Key

Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on your computer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the default admin password and configure the wireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

To connect your computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh network list, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connect to your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Key before allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This Network Key is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is configured in the Wireless settings in the Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way to setup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrase or WPA or WPA2 key that was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router. http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_address For information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in the laptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Cannot get internet access on a laptop because we do not know the "network security key" on an HP laptop through a Cisco Lynksis router.

Some later model wireless routers have the Password (ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router and this information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adapters in your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit your requirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorized access. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cable from your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computer and enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login and password and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID and Encryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 to generate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to 63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born in January 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. To connect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop, configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptops can communicate with your wireless router.

I have an eee 701 and I always had trouble connecting to any wireless internet. In some routers works fine, and in others does not connect. I had linux and change it to XP and the problem remains. Is there...

The problem your experiencing is all about the settings of your wireless connection. You need to keep in mind that there are factors that affects the wireless connectivity like Physical Barries and Network Security. for physical barries example of these are wall, cordless phones, central heating device, Thread mills and othe devices using 2.4GHz signal for network security you need to know if the network is secured, we have WEP, WPA.WPA2 and Open or no security.

Make sure you know the settings of your router then connect your laptop to it. if it ask you the netwrok key or password access the wireless settings page of your router and look for the network key and make sure that your connecting to your router or network name (SSID).

Thanks for using Fixya.

Wireless connection pending

I have seen this problem with many of my clients. Here is a way to correct your WLAN connection problem:

1: Choose "Network" in the Internet option, disconnect it and then delete the Connection in the "Manage".

2: Click "Create" to recreate the connection, choose "Local Area Network- Wireless", then Next.

3: Choose "Next".

4: Select Address Type, and then Next.

5: Browse Wireless Networks and then choose the one you want to use, you should see your wireless router/modem and the signal should show "Excellent" or "Very Strong". Choose the mode to be "infrastructure" and the Transfer rate to be "auto", and then Next.

6: Wireless Channel Settings, choose any channel.

7: If your AP is using the WEP or WPA encryption, you need to choose "Enable encryption" and then input the Key and Key index, (If you want your connection secured, you should use WPA and select a key index.) choose Next.

8: Fill in the Name of connection, then choose Next.

9: You can choose the "Connect automatically at system startup" or "Start this connection when finished" if you want, and then choose Finish.

This should correct your connection issues. Good Luck.

How can i unlock my router?

Firstly... avoid showing your SSID (eircom-123456789) here, as the WEP key can be reverse engineered from the SSID.

To change your SSID, connect your router to your PC with an ethernet cable, go to your web browser (Intenet Explorer, Forefox, etc) and type 192.168.1.254, and press return.

This will open the control panel for the router.
Select 'EXPERT MODE' from the menu on the right, and accept the warning prompt. Then click on 'CONNECTION' and the 'WIRELESS' on the menu on the right.

In the main window you can then change the SSID for your network.

You can also change some of the other options in this window such as enabling closed mode, change security protocol, password, etc.
