You might have a bad temperature control. try to see if you can turn it as close to off position as you can and start from there to see if you can reach your desired temp. if not you will need to replace the temp. control

How do I get my fridge to cool in cold weather with buying grill covers?

That is correct, you have reached the thermostat set point. Does not matter C or F. Read the manual it will give you the limits:

The ideal refrigerator temperature is 35°F (1.6°C). You're not hugging the danger zone like you would be at 40°F (4.4°C), and you're distancing yourself sufficiently from 32°F (0°C) that you don't freeze half the stuff in your refrigerator.

Too cold

Refrigerators and freezers have a thermostat control inside the refrigerator compartment. It is normally some type of dial with numbers and a graphic indicating warmer or colder.

Place a thermometer inside the cold box. Wait one hour and record the temperature. Adjust the thermostat one or two numbers warmer, then wait 12 hours and record the temperature.

The interior temperature for a refrigerator must be below 40F for food safety. A good range is 35-38F.

Can't find thermostat on commercial refrigerator

The location of the thermostat is good to know, but that is not the problem. The sealed systems of a commercial refrigerator is designed to hold enough refrigerant to keep the pressure high enough where the temperature will remain above freezing. When you have a refrigerant leak it allows the system to stay in a gas form for a longer period, therefore lowering the temperature below freezing. This will cause ice formation in the refrigerator. One other possibility is a restriction in the refrigerant line. Either way it is a sealed system issue and a professional technician should be contacted.

The back of the fridge is frozen and food is not getting cold anymore

Try this first:

Self Diagnostics

To enter Self Diagnostic mode, both temperature control panel displays must be illuminated. A display can be illuminated by pressing an adjacent temperature adjustment button. When both displays are illuminated, set the freezer and refrigerator temperature settings to 5. Simultaneously press and hold all

4 temperature adjustment buttons for approximately 3 seconds. A flashing 0 in the refrigerator and freezer displays will indicate that the refrigerator is in Self Diagnostic mode.

For temperature control panels with single-digit displays, the COLDER temperature adjustment button will increment the numbers up and the WARMER temperature adjustment button will increment the numbers down. Use the freezer temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in the freezer display. Use the refrigerator temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in the refrigerator display. When a test code has been entered, the displays will flash to confirm the test. Press the HOLD button for 3 seconds to begin the test.

For temperature control panels with 3-digit displays, the COLDER temperature adjustment button will increment the numbers down and the WARMER temperature adjustment button will increment the numbers up. Use the freezer temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in the freezer display. Use the refrigerator temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in

the refrigerator display. When a test code has been entered, the displays will flash to confirm the test

code. Press any button other than a temperature adjust button to begin the test.

When testing has been completed, do one of the following things:

• Enter code 1 5 to completely reset the system.

• Enter code 1 6 to exit diagnostic mode. The temperature control panel is reset automatically.

• Unplug the refrigerator for at least 10 seconds. Test mode will terminate when the refrigerator is plugged back in.
Test mode will terminate automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity.

You need to cycle your freezer display to indicate 0 and your refrigerator display to 7.

Control and Sensor System Self-Test (0 7)

This test checks all five thermistors located throughout the unit. Once the test is initiated, the test code (0 7) will stop flashing and the thermistor test results will appear on the freezer display in the test order listed below. The thermistor test sequence number will not be shown on the display.

If the unit is not equipped with the Quick Chill option, the third thermistor (quick chill) will display a 0 and 3 audible beeps will sound at the temperature control panel. This is not a failure if the unit is not equipped with the Quick Chill option.

Thermistor test results:

• P = Pass

• 0 = Failed

• S = Short to 5 VDC

• B = Bad amplifier

Thermistor test sequence is:

1. Fresh food top thermistor

2. Fresh food bottom thermistor

3. Quick chill thermistor (displays 0 if unit is not equipped with Quick Chill option)

4. Evaporator thermistor

5. Freezer thermistor

Note: Thermistor test results will be displayed in the sequence shown above. The thermistor test sequence number will not be shown on the display.

Note the failures if any. Should ANY of thermistors fail you must replace it.

Having said that... at this point your stick with doing a manual defrost by unplugging the unit and directing a fan into the compartment for just over 2 hours to make sure ALL of the ice on the coils and in the drains has melted. (Yes it makes a water mess!)

After the manual defrost restart the unit / plug it in and once the compressor starts listen for the evaporator fan when the door switch is actuated and the condenser fan in the bottom of the unit any time the compressor is running. If either of the fans are not running you must find out why. Can be a door switch, motor winding or power to the motor. The door switch does not affect the condenser fan.

Finally if the unit is not automatically defrosting due to a component failure... i.e

Heater, themistor, or wiring you will see ice build up again in 2 to 3 days again and you will have to keep going through the manual defrosting routine until the automatic defrosting problem is resolved.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

How to adjust temperature

Hi, Please use your thermostat to adjust your temperature setting. Most refrigerator thermostat is come with actual temperature setting at thermostat dial but it just use range : cold-medium-off ( or 5...5..3....1..0). So for instance to get your refrigerator colder just set between medium - cold. If your thermostat defective , your refrigerator will work unpredictably. In this case you need to fix or replace the thermostat.

I often realize that when a refrigerator has frost problem, it is not enough cool and freezer department could not make ice. If this problem happen simontaniously, what should be checked?

Hi,

The problem simultaneously is been caused by thermostat in the refrigerator.

The thermostat controls a refrigerator's temperature by sensing temperature changes in the unit and prompting the compressor to turn on and off in response to those changes. The compressor consists of a pump and motor assembly which are housed in a sealed compartment through which the refrigerator cooling liquid travels. When a refrigerator loses its ability to cool evenly and accurately, a faulty thermostat might be the reason. You can test the thermostat along with following basic guidelines in order to help maintain proper temperatures in your refrigerator.

To test if working properly,
Things You'll Need:
  • Ohmmeter
  • Ice
  • Water
  • Cup.
First,
Set the ohmmeter to RX1 scale or to the lowest ohm scale.

On the right side of the meter, set the pointer to "zero," making sure the probe ends make contact with each other.

Put one probe on the left side of the thermostat and one on the right side of the thermostat.

The meter should not show a reading if the thermostat is turned off. If a reading appears, replace the thermostat.
When the thermostat is turned on, the meter should indicate "0" ohm or .3 or .2 on a digital readout. If it does not appear as "0" ohm or .3 or .2, replace thermostat.

Turn the thermostat on and place each probe on either side of the thermostat so meter reads "0" ohm or .2 ohm digital. Put water and some ice in the cup. Temperature should be 32 degrees. If, after four minutes, the meter does not reflect infinite or .0000 on the digital meter open circuit, replace the thermostat.

Tips and warnings:

To prevent temperature reduction, avoid putting large quantities of warm foods into refrigerator. Vacuum dusty coils underneath the refrigerator to improve the cooling function of the unit. Ensure that the unit sits four inches from wall to allow cool air to circulate. Avoid opening the refrigerator and freezer doors frequently to preserve low temperatures.

If you must replace the thermostat, be sure to buy the exact model that came with your refrigerator. Always turn the power off and unplug the refrigerator before beginning any repairs.

Take care.

Freezer Freezes Refrigerator Barely gets cold

Hello there:
Here is a few things to check to make sure the referigerator is working properly.
The first thing to check is the overall internal refrigerator temperature (see the Appliance Accessories section for a refrigerator/freezer thermometer). The proper temperature should be between 35 and 42 degrees. Here are some things to try: If your refrigerator temperature is closer to 35 degrees, try turning the temperature up slightly. If you find that the temperature varies a lot from the top shelf to the bottom (where it is coldest), try putting produce and other sensitive products on a higher shelf. If the temperature is too low and you can't make it warmer by adjusting the thermostat, you probably have a defective thermostat. If so, you need to replace it, because they cannot be repaired. Other possible problems are a leak in the sealed (refrigerant) system, cold air migration (in side-by-side models) or a defective air damper. These problems can be quite difficult to locate and correct, we recommend you contact a qualified appliance repair technician.
If the tube or channel is clogged or obstructed, the water backs up and leaks into the inside of the refrigerator compartment. Then the water builds up at the bottom, inside of the refrigerator. When the water has built up for a time it may spill out of the front of the door opening. To fix this problem, clear the drain tube or channel and allow the defrost water to flow down to the drain pan. The refrigerator never cycles off The thermostat cycles the refrigerator on and off. The refrigerator normally runs as long as the temperature inside the refrigerator is higher than the set temperature. If the temperature inside the refrigerator is cold enough and the thermostat still does not cycle off, the thermostat may be defective. If so, you need to replace it, because it cannot be repaired. If the thermostat is not defective, you may have a problem with the sealed (refrigerant) system,

We just purchased a ge profile refrigerator today, and cannot get it off of demo mode

You have to go into the Diagnostic mode to see if you can reset this issue or if the main board in back is bad. Here's how to do it:

To enter Self Diagnostic mode, both temperature control panel displays must be illuminated. A display can be illuminated by pressing an adjacent temperature adjustment button. When both displays are illuminated, set the freezer and refrigerator temperature settings to 5. Simultaneously press and hold all 4 temperature adjustment buttons for approximately 3 seconds.

Use the refrigerator temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in the refrigerator display. When a test code has been entered, the displays will flash to confirm the test code. Press any button other than a temperature adjust button to begin the test.

First, run the control and thermistor test:

When testing has been completed, do the following :
• Enter code 1 5 to completely reset the system. Then press the Hold button (or any other button than a temperature button) to accept the code.

When you're done, unplug the refrigerator for 10 seconds and plug it in....if it does not run, the board is bad.

Cooler wont cool below 48 degrees.

Keep a thermometer handy. (adjust temperature control knob accordingly)
Periodically monitor temperatures inside your cooler. (adjust as necessary)
Keep the refrigerator door closed as much as possible to avoid temperature fluctuations

The temperature of the refrigerator compartment is
controlled by adjusting/setting the thermostat control
knob, located on the ceiling of the refrigerator
cabinet.
To start the refrigerator, and achieve maximum
cooling quickly;
• Turn the temperature control knob (using a coin
or screwdriver) clockwise to the furthest
(maximum) setting on the darker blue section of
the graduated control dial.
• Allow the refrigerator to run at this setting for 3~4
hours.
• When maximum cooling is achieved, turn back
the temperature control knob setting to the 2:00
o'clock position on the graduated blue control
dial.
• Correct cooling temperature is a key factor to
consider in storing and dispensing draught beer.
• Optimum temperature for serving draught beer is
between 34ºF ~ 38ºF.(1ºC ~ 3ºC)
• To maintain temperatures ranging between
34ºF ~ 38ºF.(1ºC ~ 3ºC) We recommend the
thermostat knob be positioned at the "2:00
o'clock" setting on the graduated blue control dial.
• To turn off the refrigerator, (no cooling) rotate the
control knob to the "0" position.
