If you have the newer style, you should have 4 wires on the CORD <--- not the terminal block itself. They'll be; Black, White, Red and Green. The green goes to the frame/cabinet and the white ALWAYS (ALWAYS) connects to the center terminal. The Black and the Red attach to either of the 2 remaining terminals... doesn't matter which one.

If you have a 3 wire cord, don't worry about a green wire. Just wire it "black, white, red" or "red, white, black"... just make sure you put the white in the middle. Think Oreo cookie.

And to be specific about your question... The Black and the Red are the "hot" wires... each one carries 120VAC.

Going from a three wire cord to a 4-wire cord. Drier has 3 connection points.

The white wire goes to the middle terminal post on the dryer.
The red and black wires go to the outside terminal posts.Doesn't matter which.
The green ground wire needs to be attached to the outside metal case...anywhere. The easiest way is to put the eyelet on the screw that attaches the terminal cover plate when you put it back on. Sandwich it between the screw head, the plate and the case.

I have the 691pass&seymour toggle switch/outlet, the way the electric was wired over 40+years ago does not look right? but I would like to install this new switch. on the old switch on the right side...

Thank you for the clear description of your P&S device.
You need to test your wires.
We are looking for the Hot, Neutral and Load wires.

Your old switch has two wires.
One of these wires is the Hot (I suspect 100% that the wire that comes from the other wires that are twisted together is the Hot)
The other is Load

Separate the old switch wires and turn on power.
Use ordinary tester.
Test each wire to metal box and see if the box is grounded.
Tester will light up on Hot wire.
You can also test each of the old switch wires to the other wires in the box.

1) Hot: Once you determine the Hot wire, this wire will connect to the P&S device:
Hot connects to the brass screws on right side, just as you said ... and these screws are on opposite side from silver screw.

2) Load: The wire to Load connects to brass screw on top left, which is on same side of device as silver screw. This screw sits opposite the P&S switch.

The last wire is the Neutral.
Test your Hot wire to all other wires in the box.
When the tester lights up, that is the Neutral

3) Neutral connects to silver screw which will complete the circuit to the P&S receptacle.

How to install a 3 way plug for stove

If I understand correctly, your stove plugs into the wall.
Your stove plug looks similar to one shown
30912b3.jpg

Review wires inside wall.
There are 2 hot wires which are red and black
There is 1 neutral wire which is white
And there is a bare ground wire

Connect wires so they match image above.
2 hot wires, black and red go across from each other
White neutral connects to flat prong on top
Bare ground connects to round prong on bottom
Older wiring might not have both white and ground ... if you do not have both, then connect the wire you have to the flat prong on top

Just brougth used maytag neptune dryer.model MDE3000AYW

If you are connecting a power cord with a 3-wire configuration, you match the corresponding wire colors from the power cord to the wires on the terminal block in the back of the dryer. The correct color-code is as follows:

RED - HOT (120VAC)
BLACK - HOT (120VAC)
WHITE - NEUTRAL (0VAC)*

*There should be a ground strap or ground wire connected to neutral at the terminal block in a 3-wire configuration.

NOTE: If the wires are not color-coded, the outer two wires (Left and Right) are the HOT leads. The center conductor is Neutral.

If you have any questions, you can refer to this link for further explanation:

This explains the difference in 4-wire and 3-wire configurations. I hope this helps you.

I am changing out the wiring from a 3 wire to a four wire. The terminal block has (top to bottom) black, whiteandblue wires. The new 4 prong wiring has a white black green and red wire... what goes where...

The black, red & blue wires are your hot (120 volt) wires. Two of them get conn. to the two brass colored screws. The white is the neutral wire which conn. to the siver screw. The green wire is the ground wire conn. to the green screw which is the grounding screw.
