Question about Canon PowerShot SD880 IS Digital Camera

Purple Spots appearing in all pictures...new and old pics!

I've noticed a purple smear on my pictures. It is always there, whether I am looking at pics or taking new ones. What is wrong with the camera and is there anything I can do to fix it without sending it off to Canon

The spots appear on the camera as well as the prints. I had older pics stored on the camera, they now have the spots. Could it be the sensor is dirty or something?

I suspect the problem is at the printing. You'd better try to go another lab....Cheers

Nikon coolpix p60

The viewfinder on the Coolpix P60 appears to be a small monitor that links to the main image sensor that is the same sensor that the lens uses. If the purple is on the images when they have been downloaded from the camera to another device, then the sensor is bad. If it is only on the viewfinder and the rear LCD, then the problem is in the connection from the circuit board to the monitoring devices.

Either way, it is probably cheaper to replace the camera than to have a non-warranty sensor or circuit board replacement.

Purple spots appearing on all pictures

I think your lens are dirty. Buy lens cleaner from your nearest electronic store. Or do what I do, breath a mist on the lens and rub with a clean cloth. It always does a trick. Don't use glass cleaners.

Camera showing/taking distorted images

According to many respected sources with far more expertise than myself, the symptoms you are describing also fall within the realm of Canon CCD failure. In Canon's Service Notice: CCD Image Sensor Advisory, they outline the most common symptoms (distorted images, LCD showing only a black screen, etc.). They have conveniently limited the description to the bare minimum. More symptoms of the failing CCD include: pictures appearing on LCD show up with severe color variations (pink-purplish or green tint), colored "streaks" or "lines" throughout pictures, and wavy distortions in image. Most of these symptoms include the color variations, but not always. The lines or waves can appear in any direction and with varying degrees of severity. Some LCDs do not go black, but turn totally purple. Here is a link to a very informative article that should clear up any questions you might have.
Digital Camera Repair Blog

If nothing else, call the Canon Customer Support Center at 1-800-828-4040. They will ask questions to identify whether or not you are having the same symptoms as described in the Product Advisory. I have been through this twice, and both times they were very nice and very helpful. Even if you don't qualify for the free repair, it didn't cost a thing to find out.
I hope this has been helpful.

Purple Pictures

This is a CCD sensor problem and should be replaced. Try to have it done free of charge by Sony even though your camera is an old model because CCD sensor should last 10 years +.
