I have a Phillips 60 inch rear projection TV and I changed the convergance IC's and the color is great but the picture stayed bowed on top and bottom. What do I do??

  • help830 Oct 25, 2007

The Television is a Phillips model # 60PP920217 and I went into convergence menu and adjusted the colors but no way to adjust the vertical.

  • help830 Oct 25, 2007

We adjusted the color and the color looks good but the picture is still bowed on the bottom and the top like an hour glass laying down.  Could the IC's have been faulty??  How can you tell if the resisors or bad?

if you cant move the color up or down then you will need to fix the convergence circuit. usually the stk ics fail (stk 392-120) you will find these mounted on a large heatsink located on the middle board. also check the sorounding resistor and fuses.

for the resistors just use a cotinuity tester and make sure none of them have opened. if you enter service mode and do convergence you should be able to move all thre colors left, right, up, and down. if you cant then you still have a problem in the circuit.

This is called vertical pincushion IMHO.

With a bit of luck you should be able to adjust this from the service menu.

Access the service mode: set SLEEP TIMER to 0 MIN.
While this is still displayed, simultaneously push DISPLAY and
VIDEO STATUS.

Color is wacked - too yellow, blue half moon at top of screen

WS-48315 uses two of the STK-394-250 convergence IC chips---if blue or red will not adjust both chips along with any bad protect resistors around them need to be replaced and the set adjusted.

Both chips can be purchased for under 30 dollars on Ebay---this may not be a job for a do it yourself person--requires soldering skills and ability to get at the chips and un-solder them and replace them.

This set was first made in 2004---if you cannot do the repair yourself--shop around your area---most shops charge at least 300 for this repair and some will not do it in your home.

You have to decide first if you are able to do it or if not if you want to spend money to get it fixed.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR NEED ADVICE let me know---I am here to help.
