Hi, The rubber is from the coupler that connects the motor to the transmission. I can direct you through this if you would like.
The following are steps on how to change a Whirlpool Motor Coupling:
First thing you must do is to disconnect the power then remove the cabinet.
You should always remove the cabinet every time you start such procedure. Two Screws behind the console that need to be removed. Lift the console and let it rest on the hinges. Under the console unplug the Lid switch. Two clips which are found between the console itself and the top panel on each end (bronze in color). Release the clips, and pull the cabinet toward you to release it from the frame. It will come off completely.
- Then you take off the water pump with the two clips holding it onto the frame of the motor
- Then you get the pump out of your way.
- Take the two clips off of the motor and set it aside and there you will see the coupling replace and put back together. You will need to tap the new coupler on the shaft of the motor and on the transmission. I use a small hammer and a 9/16" socket. Once the coupler is on, line up the koles with the posts on the coupler and put it together. Now you can put the pump back on the motor and put the cabinet back on. Be sure and set the front lip of the cabinet under the front frame and lay the cainet back on the frame. Also, make sure the sides lock down on the tabs near the back edge of the frame.
I hope this helps you. Please let me knwo if I can assist you further. You can find the coupler on my web site part# 285753A @ www.whirlpoolpartssurplus.com

The belt that moves the drum is broken resulting in the rubber shreds you see. If you feel that you can replace the belt, I can talk you through it. Other wise, it is best to have a repairman do it.

My kenmore washer will not spin the motor sounds like it's starting the spin cycle but the drum does not move.

It needs a drive coupler for the motor/transmission.
Unplug machine. Just lean the machine back, pop the two clips on the pump and put it to the side. Take the two screws out of the motor clips (usually 1/4 inch), and pop those clips off. Motor will come off. You will see the 3 fingered white piece on the motor shaft and one on the transmission shaft. There is a rubber coupler that connects the two. Replace which ever white plastic piece is broken, or the rubber piece if that is it. Make sure not to bang the white plastic piece too far onto the shaft. The shaft should go flush with the white plastic part facing you. Put motor and pump back together and plug in motor. You should be good to go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLPGs2UMUJc

My ariens 824 wont go forward or reverse. snow thrower still works. wheels start to move a bit then stop

I would check your traction drive disc for wear or shredding. With low or little fuel in tank you can safely grab handle bars and lift machine up on it's auger housing. Then remove shield from under machine and inspect metal disc with rubber around it.If rubber looks worn you can get a replacement traction drive disc easily from most small engine repair shop's or go online and look for your nearest Ariens dealer.

I have a frigidaire model fwl22sa it startted leaking and now it stopped spinning

Same problem here with same make/model. I am not an expert "washing-machine-guru", but I do have a fair level of technical knowledge. Well, when I inspected my washer looking for the problem I found that the rubber hose used to move water from the drum to the extraction water pump is broken. The water escaping the hose is spilling over the electric motor, motor belt, drum brake and water extraction pump. I removed the hose and inspected it looking for the reason it broke. All I can say is that I think that the material (rubber) used is not top quality. Apparently the cause of the failure is age. Maybe the chemicals running thru it may have debilitate the hose to the point of failure. The drum brake is not operating normal, retaining the drum from spinning when it should be. Also the motor belt have stretched a little bit, maybe because of the water spill. If your Frigidaire FWL22SA is leaking water when the drum is being filled you better refrain from using and inspect the hose. I buy the hose (original spare/repair part) for only $3.99 and installed myself. That is far cheaper vs buying a new washer. Good luck.

Drum will not turn during a cycle

Take a look at your filter, it is located behind the silver plate at the back of the machine at the bottom. Four screws hold it on. The filter is inside the big black rubber hose attached between the pump and the main drum. Remove the plastic clip holding it to the pump unit and then the metal cir clip holding it to the main drum. In side is a white molded cone and a big white ball which floats in side. You will find a lot of junk here, clean out. To refit put white cone back inside just as you found it, at the bottom, fit ball back into the cone. Attach to the bottom to the drum and re-fasten the cir clip. Finally reconnect the gator to the pump unit and tighten the plastic clip. Check out your pump too.

WMA54 Hotpoint Aquarius drum does not turn during wash or spin

If the machine pumps water inside but does not start :

Start checking the lid switch, if this is stuck the machine wont start.

If the drum does not move at all, the motor, the motor control unit, the motor coupler, the control board may be faulty.

For more details , see: It doesn't spin
