Question about Western Digital Passport WDXML800UE (WDXML800UETE) 80 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Hard Drive has changed it's name and I cannot access the files

My 120GB Hard Drive is showing all of the files in s funny language? This is one of the file names for example: fâê┴╤.r1 I cannot open the files as it comes up with "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." It was working fine yesterday and I have tried it on two laptops with no success. Instead of WD Passport as the drive name it comes up with: ╗v▐∙─Å»[Túª Please help as I would like to access my files. Thanks Mitch

Files not shown looks empty

This generally means you have "logical" damage on the drive, somewhat akin to loosing the index pages of an encyclopedia. As a rule, the info is all still on the drive but there's no easy way to access it.

In most cases you will require a pro who can scan the drive and relocate all the files for you.

Comment back with your location(country, state, city) and I will point you in the appropriate direction.
