Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Ice buildup around freezer door seal.

I have a GE ref. mod# tfx30pryfww with ice buildup around the upper portion of the freezer door seal. So much ice has built up the door won't completely close. I have no other ice buildup in the freezer. The defroster seams to work correctly. Is there a door seal heater on this model, or could a bad ice maker door seal allow enough humidity in to cause this ice problem. Thanks in Advance Tim

Hi, Check and see if the gasket is leaking any where. Also check and see if the door to you ice dispenser is closing. Ice/frost only builds up around the door hen there is an air leak.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further,

Thanks
Vic

Ice buildup in freezer compartment is a sign of either bad door seals or an inoperative self defrosting system.

My freezer door wont open, feels locked on one side. water is leaking underneath

Just answered a similar question about this but with the water leaking in this one, I think the door got wedged open slightly and you now have an excessive ice buildup on the inside of the freezer causing the door to stick from the ice buildup. You may need to pull hard to break loose the ice and when you get the door open clean all excessive ice from around the door seal area. Packages inside may need to be re- arranged so door closed properly.

Freezer is full of snow

Check freezer and refrigerator door seals, ice dispenser ice door and floor of freezer for ice buildup caused by a defrost drain blockage. If ice door is stuck open it will allow for warm moist air to be drawn inside freezer and collect as frost over everything. Is GTS16BCS the correct model number listed above your post? I will be here should you have questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

"Hi, I have a questions

It seems you will need a service technician again. Be sure you got a warranty if you agreed to service your refrigerator. If you use the refrigerator correctly it will never go bad for less than a year and call for service repair. But if you definitely used it correctly, chances are the refrigerator you brought have a factory defect.
I hope my advice help you.

Frezer temp @ -5 ,referagerator @ 47 degrees. how can I get it colder /

determine if freezer fan is running. If not thats the problem.
Remove the back panel in freezer to access the fan.
Check for frost buildup on back bottom of freezer panel
Sometimes this is a auto defrost problem or ice buildup on
freezer coils.
If ice on the freezer coils is restricting air to the ref.
To confirm ice you will need to turn off ref. for 24 hrs and let the ice melt OR remove back panel in the freezer and visually look for ice in the evaporator coils. if it works fine when you turn it on take your mod number to a local Appliance parts store and they will sell and instruct how to fix the Defrost system

If this was helpful please rate me.

Freezer light is on compressor is hot freezer is not running\cooling. Interior coils have ice on them

Hello, the interior coils of the Freezer is the evaporator. If there is a uniform layer of ice on those coils or heavy buildup of frost, your defrost circuitry is not working properly. Possible timer or bi-metal defrost thermostat. Or, if it's a GE, a possible bad defrost heater element. Need to call a tech and have this serviced. The evaporator cannot absorb heat when Ice is evident. If there is ice on the lower portion of evap coils then you may have an obstruction in the sealed system. Once again, service tech can diagnose this and repair - costly. As for the freezer light being on, don't know. Make sure the door switch is working propler. Hope this helps!

No water from dispenser in door .... ice machine works but no water.

If this is a GE the water supply in the freezer door is frozen. Quick easy way to check is disconnect at the bottom of the freezer door and close door and activate the water switch and see if water getting to that point. If it is turn off ref and use a hair dryer on the upper section around thr recessed area and defrost the ice line. Will take a while so be patient.

Door doesn't close properly, leaks water

If the door seals are still pliable and intact there are two possible causes.

1/ The upper door hinge on the top of freezer unit has two adjusting screws under a plastic cover/cap which allows the upper hinge to be set forward or back altering/adjusting the spacing of the door seal to the freezer body. Moving the hinge outward at the top will cause the door to seal tighter at the bottom and lessen escaping cold air and condensation to form (water droplets). Adjust carefully so as not to create a weak seal (air gap) along other sealing edges of the door frame.

2/ Many United Refrigeration Commercial Freezers are manual defrosting. Moisture from inside the freezer can condense between the inner molded door panel (door shelves) and the exterior metal door. Usually ice buildup will occur in this space, but when defrosting or during high ambient temps the ice will melt and drip out along the bottom door edge/seal. Screws alomg the door frame (hidden by the door seal) hold the seal in place and also the inner molded door panel. The inner panel can be removed to replace the seal or to remove the ice buildup.

Refridgerator freezer GE

Frost is due to outside air leaking into unit. Check on back wall to see if hole for ice maker fill tube is still plugged. If not and you have no ice maker cover hole with tape. Also look for water or ice build up in bottom of freezer or ref. sections. May have a plugged drain. Let me know what you find.
