300zx won't start, no spark

Sitting at a stop light, then out of nowhere, it just cut off immediately. Now it wont start at all, it cranks but wont actually start. the shop i took it to said it isnt getting any spark, they wont however work on it anymore saying that it could be the wiring harness in which it could take many hours to fix and dont want to do it.

Well.... I do not see the ignition module listed, which is mounted inside the distributor mentioned yet. Have you replaced it and just not listed it? The crank sensor could be too.....I just can't imagine having to cut a wiring harness. Never had to before... keep trying other things.

check timing, see if belt may have slipped out of timing, and need pressure tester to test pressure where the fuel goes into the fuel filter. check for vaccuum leaks.

SOURCE: Distributor wont spark

check the fuseble link.
you can measure it, and make sure the contact are clean and secured.
the other thing is the check the ignition switch, make sure you have 12v going to the switch.
check thermo switch on top of the block.

1995 nissan pathfinder

If it cranks but won't start, you will need to find out if it has no spark to the plugs or no fuel to the injectors.

Starting problems

It will likely be the crank sensor, usually fitted next to or behind the bottom engine pulley. A common failure is for the sensor to stop sending a signal when hot, and the engine will stall immediately. After a time, it re-starts but will cut out again when the sensor gets hot again. These sensors are easy to find and replace, and not usually expensive.

the crankshaft position sensor controls spark and if faulty would give the symptons you have described you need to get this checked first

300ZX wont start, or crank for nothing

The car seems to have functioning parts but it is probably a wiring issue - have you done a heater core replacement or anything under the dash/hood in a while (other than "tapping on the starter" <-- which you shouldnt do by the way)

what year is it??

if it is a 1990 the car has a plug undone under the driver side steering column on the "security" and "ignition" wiring circuit - read your FSM (factory service manual) and diagnose the problem. it is definately a short somewhere!
