Two things to check, first ensure you are using the correct gas to oil ratio in fuel tank. Second, if chain is over heating, then chain is not being oiled properly. Check to see if chain is well oiled when cutting and if wood is being burned at the point of the cut.

Could it possibly be that you may have to much or not enough transmission oil or even water in your transmission being its an automatic transmission or maybe your clutch needs adjusting or replacement if its a manual/standard transmission

Ryobi rcs4040ca chainsaw

Its unusual for a saw to start actually smoking, are you sure the chainbrake has not come on and you have been running it, this will make it smoke and damage the clutch, sprocket and brake.Remove the side cover and check for signs of heat,

I have 97 h.a.c. rotax 670 rav when running it smokes very bad . is oiler bad or out of adjustment

Ensure you are using the correct mix ratio for the chainsaw. Too much oil will produce blue smoke. The correct ratio is 1 to 50 two stroke oil to gas or 2% oil in the mix. This is equivalent oto 20ml in 1 liter or 2.6 US fluid ounces per US gallon.
A chainsaw will also smoke if the chain is badly blunt and overheating. This smoke however is due to friction charring the wood being cut.

I teally need a manuel for this chainsaw Homelite Textron UT104033. the sparkplug has alot of oil in it? and im, not sure how much tension is supposed to be in chain? obviously i cant seam to get it to...

Here is a helpful link for the owners manual and maintenance guides. The chain should be tight, but still have some movement when you lift the chain from the guide, however the bottom links should not come out of the guide.

My Ryobi petrol RCS 3540c chainsaw, smokes badly and won't cut into the wood, it just slides off the top most of the time.

Check that the chain is on the right way around. The cutting edge of the teeth on the chain, at the bottom of the bar should face towards you and away from you on the top. It's most likely that the chain is facing the wrong way. If you don't know how to fit a chain look at the video on http://www.ehow.co.uk/video_4419336_replace-chainsaw-chain.htm

If that's not the problem then the chain is blunt and needs to be sharpened badly. You can sharpen it, with a special file which can be got from chainsaw dealers, or take it to a garden tool hire centre and have it sharpened professionally. It has to be sharpened professionally from time to time anyway to keep it cutting straight so if it's that blunt I'd recommend you get done professionally now.

The smoke if it's coming from the chain is caused by overheating from trying to cut with the chain which is too blunt or turned the wrong way. If the smoke is coming from the engine check your fuel. You should have petrol mixed with 2 stroke oil. The saw manual will give the ratio of 2 stroke oil to petrol. If you use too much oil or if it's not 2 stroke it will cause smoke from the engine. Also if you use cheap oil it can cause smoke. It's best to use good quality oil like husqvarna or stihl 2 stroke. These also protect the saw better than the cheap brands you get at car service stations which are really only meant for boats which are water cooled.

Chainsaw is smoking excessively when in use

White smoke is usually associated with burning antifreeze in an automobile engine, but in this case, trying to cut wet wood might be suspect. The chain must be properly sharpened and the teeth cut toward you on the bottom run of chain. When the chain is properly adjusted, it should not droop from the lower edge of the bar, but no so tight that you can't turn it by hand. Forcing a poor cutting chain into the kerf will overheat the chain and cause it to become loose quickly. Hope this helps!
