You can use an external USB keyboard to check the keyboard driver in the Device Manager (Control Panel, Device Manager). If it is exist and the driver is installed properly (no exclamation mark), then your keyboard is dying or dead.
I recently had Acer Aspire One Laptop with very similar symptoms: No screen, no lights (those that indicates activities) except Power button. I first thought the Hard Disk is dead but it's not.
I contacted Acer helpdesk in Australia and they have sent me a document with BIOS update and instructions. I did what it says and then the laptop is back to normal. Yours may have the same issue - need BIOS update.
The Aspire One BIOS update requires a FAT USB drive with the updated BIOS and the BIOS Flash program, plugged it in, press and hold 2 buttons: Fn and Esc, then press Power button for a while.
You should seek Acer Support website. But you may need proof of purchase.
ok..... firstly check to make sure the "NUM LOCK" is off!!! if no joy
get a usb keyboard and restart the pc with keyboard plugged in,
hopefully if the usb controllers are enabled in the bios you will be
able use the usb keyboard and enter your password, use it until you
resolve the issue
I have this same model and bought from tigerdirect around Nov 06. I started having problems with mine around the first of Feb.08. As you noticed it is a few months out of warranty. My keyboard and touchpad will not respond during boot up. I too can not get into bios. I have unsoldered CMOS battery and resolderer and still no response. I have noticed that Acer has a hidden Active X file in system32 that may be an interactive file on how the system performs. I do not know anyone that had an Acer for more than 2 years. I think Acer has included a bug in their systems to corrupt to function of the motherboard. I am always working on computers and I have never seen this happen to see many people on these forums online. I am researching Acer computer now and will probably find the problem. My usb mouse lights up but do not move the mouse what so ever. I would recommend anyone not to buy. Once out of warranty the only voice you will hear before speaking to Tech Support is Credit card # and 2 dollars an hour charge and that may not help. I really believe that Acers lauch manager holds the info I need because there was an activeX file call lunch.dll that they have recently added a patch.
