Might have a loose or broken plastic parts or a spinning motor is missing the gears of the machine device.Tries take the device hold it tight lift it over ur head shakes it a few times. That the easiest way to fixed grinding noises.

I bought a new LG Blu-ray player at Best Buy in December of 2009. For the last couple of months (begining in May of 2010) I'be started experiencing my player not wanting to play a large majority of my...

two of the main problems associated with players are their motor's and their lens. the lens emitts a light which reads the image off the disc, if the lens is going bad then that lighting signal isnt as strong as it should b and it wont be able to read the disc. on the other hand if the motor spinning the disc is spinning to slowly or it starts but doesnt continue spinning to allow the lens to read the disc then u will experience the problems that u are facing with your player.

solution: get the whole lens motor mechanism changed.

Player makes lots of noise when trying to load a disk, some what of a grinding sound and eventually stops with the disk not loaded

there seem to be a problem with the lens of the dvd player so it is not accepting the disc that is why it is making that grinding sound.

the lens could either be weak or dirty.

try use a lens cleaner, if it works after then it means the lens was dirty.

and if it does not work, then it means the lens is weak and needs replacement.

take care

Strange noise when i turn on my portable dvd player

Hi, I wonder if the player has taken a bit of a hit on the lid and pushed the spindle table down a millimetre or so and causing the disc to rub - check the disc for scratches around its edges and inside the player for axial scratching from the disc rubbing. If there is none, then it sounds like spindle motor bearings may be on their way out.

Some discs will not finaliize.

Turns out the rubber disc grip on the spindle simply needs to be cleaned (using an alcohol wipe). This is the part that holds the disc firm while it's spinning...the noise and failed disc reads comes from this rubber getting dirty and allowing the disc to slip. Total time to fix including disassembly was less than 15 minutes!

Sony DVP-PQ2 problem

does it do this with every disk?

it could be one of several things, with some of these drives it uses a friction wheel at the center of the disk to "spin" the disk, this uses a circular rubber traction disk to grip the disk on both sides and then spins the disk using this traction, ( if the rubber there is not good it will not work well)

the other kind of spindle is a press on spindle which has a spring loaded grip mechanism where the disk is clipped onto the spindle,

the other issue is that you may have a driveband failure, this basically a rubber band which drives the main drivewheel from the drive motor, these can wear out or perish.

lastly, it could be a bad/burned out drive motor,

all of these issues can be fixed by the manufacturer and some of these can be fixed relatively easy by the user if the unit is out of warranty

DVD+RW playback problem(s)

same prob with the shows freezing up

with a DVD+/- RW disc the amout of time keeps dropping because with every recording process the disc loses a life you can burn those disc 200 times before they become useless so the disc might be beyond the life peroid or bad

my prob is with the DVD-/+R disc tho and i figured it out the disc was bad

for the grinding noise if its hi piched its normal thats the disc spinning up to read or write speed

if that not the case something is rubbing in there and that might explaine the writting errors

the disc manurfacture dose not take resposnablity for defective disc and any loss they have caused(if the data is lost)

Panasonic dmr-es15 no read

I haven't tried this yet, but based on the description, it looks to be the spindle motor not functioning properly. Read below:

The most common mechanical problems that can prevent a dvd player from playing or reading the discs are the following:

1. The spindle motor not functioning properly (this is by far the most common, if the spindle motor is not spinning the discs then the optical lens can not read them). For the most part it is an cheap part to replace averaging around 25-25 dollars if you can replace it yourself. If you do not know how and have to take it to a repair shop expect to pay 50-75 dollars in labor. The key is to listen closely when you insert the disk into the player, you should be able to hear it spin up. If you hear nothing then that is most likely the problem.

Won't format and or won't read disc

I have a similar problem in that it will not record at all or not record very well.  It has a drive inside like a PC DVD drive called the DVD RAM drive. The horrible clunking (grinding) sound is the disc slipping in the spindle. Unfortunately here in Australia the fix is to replace the whole drive (AU$350)!!
I have opened it up and tried to adjust the force of the spindle and it works for a while.
Hope somebody has a better solution.
