Air conditioner has no power at all to turn it on

The air conditioner was fine when we removed it from the window in the Fall. We put it back in the window today and it is completely dead...What can be the problem?

There are other things plugged into the same outlet...lamp and phone. There is a two prong add-on added to the air conditioner plug because the air conditioner plug was three prong and our outlets are two prong. But, it's the same add-on plug that we used last year. It's like there is no power to the air conditioner, but like I say, the lamp and phone are plugged into the same outlet..

I thank you for all your help...I'm so sorry to bother you! We are just so dumb!!!! There are on/off switches on the plug on the cord that goes to the air conditioner and we were attempting to turn the cord on without plugging it into the outlet! We had the cord in our hand and were trying to switch the unit on/off without having the unit plugged in. Our grandson was over last night and we asked him to take a look at it...he just plugged the cord in and pushed the switch. I'm sorry...we our just dummies!!! Thanks again!

It's hibernating. Ok, no jokes. What do you mean dead? Is there power to the outlet? Any chance mice got into the wiring?

No, I doubt its a problem with the plug. I don't want to direct you into the wiring so lets try this . Rotate the thermostat control or if buttons alternately press the on and off buttons several times. If its a dial turn turn it several times then stop at lowest temp setting. Do the same to all the controls. This helps to clean the contacts on the controls. I don't know of any air conditioner that has a reset or breaker incorporated in its electrical.Takthere is any humming. The Fan should at least turn. If not, then someone will need to check to see where the power ends. Try the control cleaning a few times. Let me know if you will please. One more thing, Pull on the power cord and see if it is securely held in place, if not, Look closely where it passes through the cabinet to detect if the cord was pulled on. then check for any signs of kinking or crimping. The power cord itself may have been damaged somehow. Make sure all the prongs are tight . It has happened wher the cord on a unit being carried got caught on something and having hands full, It was jerked on to free it. Can't rule that out.. Good luck and stay in touch.

Doesn't that beat all? some little need to know facts just have to be known.LOL. Well, maybe not, I've pulled a few "hope nobody was looking " things my self.

So now we're even for the hibernating thing. :) Be cool, pardon the pun. Thank you for your honesty and letting me know. It is greatly appreciated. Happy trails. :)

I have a Ruud heat pump/air conditioner. The out side fan and unit works fine and cools fine but now the inside fan that blows the cool air in will not turn on. We can turn the fan with our hand so I don't...

You didn't mention if you checked for 115 volts at the power supply to the air handler. The unit outside has its own power supply. A lot of times the switch that is on the wall doesn't like to work after its been turned off and back on for service, also check the blower door safety switch. If the blower door hasn't been put back in place properly and snugly it will kill power to the whole air handler. Hope this helps. Good luck

The blower motor does not come on when we turn the air conditoner on, but does come on when the furnace come on it blows out fine. it is an american standard. the unit on the outside is running strong,...

Hello, turn off power to the furnace and remove the thermostat, then take the R and W Wires and put a jumper wire between them, then turn power back on if this turms on the furnace then you have a bad thermostat if it does not it is a problem with the integrated control board or possibly a low voltqge wire is loose.

Just turned on system (95 degrees here today)...and the fan works fine, but no cold air comes out...just room temp. Worked fine last fall. GE Window unit (10,500 BTU)

You need to determine if the commpressor is running. If it is, your unit need a recharge of refrigrant. If it is not most likely the start capacitor is bad. A $20 fix if you do it yourself.

Air conditioner turns on then shuts itself off immediately

There's something wrong with your aircon. Usually the lights will start to blink. Depending on the brand and model, the number of times it blinks will give you an error code which tells you what's spoilt. You may like to check this out
