GE Dryer not producing heat

I have had my GE dryer for 1 1/2 year. Its had always been good. A small problem with it is that when you close the dryer door it'll automatically starts without switching it on. Its good but bad b/c you have to switch it off all the time. It'll stop when the cycle is done. How can I fix this problem.

My second & bigger problem is that after my moving yesterday, it quit producing heat. I did have to buy a 4 prong plug to replace the 3 prong. The dryer is spinning except with no heat. How can I fix this problem?

Thank you!

First, replace the door switch. Second, check the wiring of the new cord. It should be as follows:
Dryers come with a wire or metal strap connecting the center "neutral" terminal to the frame of the dryer. When using a four wire power cord, take that wire or strap off the frame. (it can be discarded or better yet, in case this dryer needs to ever be converted back to a three wire cord) connect the frame end of the wire / strap to the center terminal of the power block. Now, Green (ground) wire goes to the dryer frame, White (neutral) goes to the center terminal, and the Red and Black (both "hot") wires go to either outside terminal. (one to each)
Third, if you still have no heat, make sure there is strong air flow out the vent outside the house when the dryer is running. If all that is good, check for 240 volts to dryer. (dryers can run the motor on 120, but need 240 to heat). Comment back (including model number) if you have further questions.

Two very good web sites. Includes GE dryer. Check your appliance manual. Provide details on your dryer type gas or electric and what it does and does not do for more specific answers.

GE dskp333ecoww electric dryer no longer producing heat

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

DEGX1 dryer will not produce any heat. 5 years

I have the same model of dryer and the same problem and no experience in fixing any appliances. I took a few screws off the top and the front, opened the dryer by rotating it forward, and found a red button (a fuse or breaker?) close to what I figured would be the heat sink. Pressed the button, it clicked, and decided to put it all back together. First load worked fine, hopefully that was all it needed. Good luck and hope this is all you have to do too.

My GE Profile Harmony Dryer is no longer Heating

Does it get hot when you turn it on, and then never gets hot again while its running? On my dryer the solenoid broke, when the dryer was cold it worked and the dryer operated properly because the dryer and solenoid were cold and the solenoid wire was closed, when the dryer was hot enough the solenoid opened and the heat would not restart. the solenoid is a coiled wire which is used to open the gas valve.

Dryer heats with smaller loads

1. unplug your machine and rach as far in the exhaust part of the dryer to see if there is an obstrucxtion
2.Take out the lint filter and make sure there are no gaping holes in the screen
3. Check the exhaust house leaving the machine or blockage, this hose should not run more than ten feet for optimal drying time.
4. its your heating element

Electric dryer intermittently doesn't heat

If your dryer has a timer with quick connects which easily plug into it then you can possibly fix this problem. Yank both connects off the timer and remove the timer. Take the 2 motor screws off and remove the plate carefully. Clean the contacts on each leaf switch with a file. Put it back and retry. Sounds difficult but it isn't. Remember only the timer with the 2 quick connects.

How do I test for bad thermastat or heating element on GE dryer

well the fact that hte heating elemnt is glowing tells me that all the thermstats are working, i would check for a blockage/restriction in the venting. looking at te diag, its possible that only 1 of the 2 coils for the heate are actually going on, check the coils for continuity( may be a small break that separates when gets hot)

HOW TO FIX A NO HEAT ON A GE ELECTRIC DRYER OVER 10 YEAR OLD

Either one of 2 ways to get to the thermostat on a GE dryer.....

depending on your model, you will have an access point on the back of the dryer to get to the heating element which has attached to it, the thermostat.

If there isn't an access point on the rear of the unit, open the front door of the dryer and remove the 2 screws in the top of the door opening. Using a small prybar, slightly apply pressure prying up the lid. On the inside of the face of the dryer in the corners will be 2 more screws, remove those and pull the face of the dryer outwards to you to about a 45 degree angle. From there, you will be able to lift off the face. Be cautious to unplug the wires for the door switch before pulling the face all the way out. There isn't much to a 10 yr old dryer, just take your time, study the parts and put it back just as you took it apart. For the replacement thermostat or heating element look at

Good luck and let me know if there is any more trouble I can help with.

GE Dryer

Sounds like an intermittant break in the heat element. Could also be an irratic control thermostat or bad connection somewhere between the line and the heater. Simple to isolate with a tester.
