How do I rename my network on a Belkin router

Please open the configuration page of your router by typing your router's IP address on a browser's address bar. Router's IP address is the default gateway when you check the IP address on the command prompt. As soon as you are on the login page, type the user name and password. Look for the wireless settings tab. SSID is the router's wireless network name. Replace the SSID of the name you want for your wireless network and apply the changes.

How do I put security on my Belkin 54g router

You set your security by enabling WEP.

When you get in the interface to configure WEP, set a pass phrase. Write down the 3 numeric keys it generates. Then connect to the wireless using your laptop, etc. When it asks for your passkey, do not enter the pass-phrase; enter one of the three keys that were generated by the router. That's the biggest mistake people make when trying to get wireless to work.

Slow ping time

Hi,

Ping depends on the server network and not the configuration of the laptop. If the ping varies, you need to check the network configuration.

Any further help, let me know.

Thanks for using "Fixya".

Belkin 54g Wireless connection problem.

This is more of an explanation then a solution, but to best explain what to do I have to first explain why this is happening. When you add security to a wireless router or ap you add extra envelopes to the packets of info being transferred, adding encryption to that makes it much slower because the ap has to encode all packets coming to you and un-encode all packets being sent to the Internet. In our time this happens very quickly, but in computer time I just described a lifetime. In addition if your signal is not 100% you might have packet loss "more slow down". Now the answer, in your ap setup pages you can setup wireless security, set this to Mac address authenication and add the mac addresses of all the network cards that have access to this ap. This is by far the fastest methiod of secure data transfer.

Hope this was some help...

Open a browser page and log into the setup page @ 192.168.2.1,
click on SSID on the left column under Wireless,. It will probably ask you for a password if you had put one in. If not leave it clear and click "submit".
Then you can change the SSID (router name" to what you want it to be.
Then click on security, choose the type on encryption you want ie: WEP. WPA. Then put in the key you want to use to secure the router. Make sure you click apply after each change.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
