Question about Maytag Atlantis MAV7000

Is it the motor?

My Maytag MAV7000 was washing clothes when it made screeching sounds, then it died. I had to remove the clothes and bail out the water. It gave off a burning rubber smell so I unplugged it. I checked underneath the unit and the belt looks great. I think it's the motor. What do u think? How can I remove the front panel to check the motor? There are no screws infront but I do see clips underneath. Thanks Linda

The usual "screeching noise" in these washers is most often from the pump. Tilt the machine up so you can get the belt off (no tools required) and then turn all three of the pulleys. The center pulley is the transmission, the movable one is the motor and the last one is the pump. You will probably be able to feel or hear the noise and take appropriate actions. Good luck. AJ

That is the brake. Your clutch maybe wearing out. Or the belt maybe slipping because the rollers for the motor maybe wearing out.

problem could be the gearcase or the motor, to find out remove the motor and turn it with your hands to hear any abnormal sounds coming out, and also try to smell the motor see if it has a burning smell

Check to see if your water pump is spinning. It could be seized up and the burning smell could be the belt spinning on the seized pulley. Good luck Friend.

Try watching the timer motor and see if you can see it moving .

http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php From what I see, your machine has a drive belt. Check it for damage or see if it has anything on it making it slip. Check the pulleys to make sure they are not worn out.

Maytag MAV7000 AWW washing machine agitator won't spin freely.
When you grab the fabric dispenser and move the agitator "counter "clockwise you should hear the rachet noise,once you try and move it back "clockwise" the fabric dispenser should slide inside the agitator and the agitator should NOT move.

MAV7000 clicking sounds in all cycles. sounds like a fan blade hitting an obstruction. noise volume decreases a bit when spin cycle occurs sounding like gravel. Spin locked up once. Strange metallic odor...
Sounds like there is an obstruction striking or rubbing against the impeller in the drain pump assy. It will require removing the front cover/ Drive belt from the bottom of unit/ Hoses from drain pump (be prepared for the water) a 3/8" socket to remove the pump & a needlenose plier to remove the obstruction... Hope this helps....Bill
