  1. Write down the printer name and brand.
  2. Remove the empty cartridge and check the writing on it. If it has any bold and big numbers on it, write these down.
  3. Go to office supply store and give the clerk your notes.
  4. Make sure you get the right one and take it home.
  5. Check to be sure your printer is on.
  6. Open your printer's lid.
  7. Take out the old cartridge and put inside a small ziploc if you want to.
  8. Dispose of the old cartridge. Or if possible, have the cartridge recycled.
  9. Unpack new cartridge and place inside the printer.
  10. Print a test page.
  11. Reconfigure printer heads for best quality.

    How to Refill Ink Cartridges on Dell Printers

    Step 1Read the instruction booklet that comes with your refill kit. If there is any special issue with the cartridge contained the particular Dell printer that you own, follow the refill kit's directions. Otherwise, continue to Step 2.

    Step 2Open your printer and remove the ink cartridge. This may require you to twist slightly downward on the cartridge until you feel it "give." Do not use enough pressure to break anything. If you are in doubt about how to remove the printer cartridge, consult your printer manual or look it up online.

    Step 3Wipe the print head very carefully with toilet paper that has been dampened. If ink is dried and won't wipe off, allow the print head to sit in a shallow dish of warm water and vinegar (a 50/50 solution) for up to 20 minutes. Wipe carefully again with damp toilet paper until the copper print head appears clean of all ink. Pat dry with toilet tissue.

    Step 4Peel back the label on top of the cartridge until you reveal the cartridge's fill hole.

    Step 5Place a short piece of Scotch tape over the copper print head.

    Step 6Open the bottle of ink from the refill kit, being careful not to remove the aluminum seal on top of the bottle. Insert the syringe from the refill kit through the aluminum seal and draw out 10ml of ink. Replace the top of the ink bottle.

    Step 7Insert the syringe into the fill hole of the cartridge and slowly inject the ink, being careful not to let the ink overflow the fill hole. Remove the syringe and replace the peeled-back label. A small piece of Scotch tape can be used to hold the label in place if necessary.

    Step 8Place the printer cartridge on a double-sheet paper towel, with the print head down but angled so the printer jets do not touch the paper. Allow the cartridge to sit this ay for 20 minutes so the ink can be fully absorbed by the sponge in the cartridge and any air bubbles can escape.

    Step 9Remove the Scotch tape from the print head and carefully wipe the head with a piece of toilet paper to remove any ink that has seeped out of the jets.

    Step 10Re-insert the cartridge in the printer. Turn on the printer and run a test sheet to confirm that the refill is working properly.

    Warning: Do not put the cartridge back into your printer if ink drips out of the print head.

    Avoid touching the copper part of the print head with your fingers.

    Do not plug the cartridge's fill hole, as air must be allowed to enter the cartridge to prevent a vacuum from forming.

Black Cartrige Missing

Did you use a brandname ink cartridge - or is it a knock-off brand? If it is a brand name - then the cartridge is most likely defective. If it is a knock-off brand - some printers do not recognize the electronic in the cartridge and therefore don't see it as one being installed.

Using generic or refilled Dell Series Ink cartridges will always give the low ink message.

To remove the message, try the Dell Series brand from Walmart Staples or Dell's website.

Try removing all 4 ink cartridges and unplug the power.

Close the ink cover, leave the ink cartridges out and then plug the power back in.

Once the printer boots up completely, reinstall the cartridges

I'm trying to replace black color cartridge, but get an error message: carrier jam How do I unjam it? Already did the unplug- check for paper jam and luck!

Remove all paper...(inspect closely for paper jammed way inside!)

also remove both ink cartriges, reinsert them one at a time carefully and properly....also double check the number code on the ink

the jam error could be either paper or cartriges confusing the printer. let me know if it works....k

Can't change ink on dell 810. what do I do first? I don't know how to change ink in dell 810,I couldn't see how to take old one out as well and how to put new one please

Lift the priner unit lid on the printer llift he print cartridge lid,
The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

Press down on the ink cartridge lever to raise the ink cartridge lid.
Remove the old ink cartridge.
Dispose of the old cartridge properly.

If you are installing a new ink cartridge, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the back and bottom of the ink cartridge.

Insert the new ink cartridge.

Snap the lid closed.
Lift the printer unit, and hold the scanner support up while lowering the printer unit until it is completely closed. Let me know if you have any questions.

Dell 810 giving Incompatible Ink Cartridge error message

Hi try these steps

STEP: Disconnect and Reconnect the Printer Power Supply
Top of Form 1
Bottom of Form 1

Unplug the power cord from the wall socket.
Disconnect the power supply from the back of the printer.
Wait 15 seconds.
Reconnect the power supply to the back of the printer.
Plug the power cord back into the wall socket

STEP: Clean the Contacts and Wick the Ink Cartridge
Ensure the printer is powered on.

Lift the scanner unit.

Open the cartridge latches and remove the cartridges from the carrier
Take a clean, damp cloth and wipe the nozzle of the print cartridge from front to back.
Turn the cartridge so that you are looking at the contacts on the back side of the cartridge
Using a clean dry cloth, wipe the contacts so that no dust or other contaminants are visible
Clean the contact inside the printer with the dry cloth used to clean the cartridge contacts.

Replace the cartridges in the carrier and close the scanner unit.
STEP: Verify Each Cartridge Carrier Has an Ink Cartridge
Check to make sure the left cartridge carrier contains a black or photo ink cartridge.
Check to make sure the right carrier contains a color ink cartridge.
Remove each cartridge and examine it to make sure the protective tape has been removed from the contacts and the print head.
Replace each cartridge in the proper carrier.
