Replacing the batteries is not an easy job. You need to have a special Torx screwdriver to undo the screws.

The batteries are soldered onto the Control Board (it's unfortunately not just a case of cracking open the case and putting in batteries in an instant). The batteries inside are 600mAh.

It may be worth speaking to your local Philips Service Center (refer to

I usually recommend if you're replacing a shaver to spend a little more $$'s to get one that is mains and rechargeable so that when the batteries die, the shaver is still useable.

I need a new battery installed in my Norelco 7845 XL, It's at least 10 yrs old, & has new blades in the head. Where do I send it, & how much.??

Hi jimkaem,

You can find valuable resources for the 7845XL including manuals and FAQ's:

The batteries for this shaver are built-in. Do not try to replace the batteries yourself.

If you have problems with the built-in batteries, take the appliance to your local service center to have them checked and/or replaced by a professional.

Does the 5825 charge only on a single voltage (120 or 230 volts ac) or is it 100 to 250 volts usable everywhere.

Hello, It depends where you bought it.But now a days most of the power units come either in DUAL VOLTAGE (switchable ) or UNIVERSAL VOLTAGE ..USA (110 v AC) and European (230 V AC ) works in between. The later one automatically accepts the plug in voltage without any switch.
If you look carefully his info should have been posted ( with tiny letters ) onto the power adapter.

How to change batteries?

mcdevito75 here, There are 2 versions of batteries in Norelco shavers 1 system is where the batteries are soldered to a circuit board in which case you"d have to replace the shaver or find an appliance repair shop in your area, The 2nd is where you can replace the batteries your self but, you;ll need a set od torx screwdrivers available at any auto parts store, refer to Norelco online at for Battery replacement. Look for these torx screws on the back cover or by lifting the shaver head .

How do you change the batteries in the Norelco 5801 xl or can I get a manual for the shaver

Start by removing the two screws on the back and remove the back cover. You will then be able to see the batteries. They are soldered to the back side of the circuit board. For easier replacement, it is sometimes suggested that you use a modified installation technique. This is to break the tabs off of the old batteries rather than unsoldering them from the circuit board. This allows the old batteries to be removed but leaves the tabs attached to the circuit board. You can then solder the tabs from the new batteries to the old existing tabs

You will find batteries for model 5801XL at See link below

If you are not able to do this yourself, can do it for you. See information link below

Shaver was running slow and then died. Replaced

Your original symptoms sure sound like dying batteries. Brushes can wear out. Check if it runs better if you change the orientation of the shaver. Does holding it upside down make it work better or worse? If the speed changes, its probably the brushes. You can buy new brushes, but the Norelco repair place will probably give you a hard time since they want to repair it for you so you have to insist. I have made brushes for the shaver by filing down brushes from some other motor, but this is messy and doesn't always work.
