Where is contrast button/control on my keypad??

I want to calibrate color on my laptop. I am in Adobe Gamma in control panel, which tells me to first adjust contrast. They say to locate a symbol that looks like an eclipse. Cannot find this. I see my brightness (sun symbol) control on the F6 and F7 keys, but where is contrast?

Hi and thank you for getting back to me so promptly!

The graphics provider is Intel (Graphics Media Accelerator). Yey!
    Thank you- You're awesome--
'However, I am trying to manually calibrate my monitor. Here is my concern. I do photo retouching--Just sent a pic to a client who said they see lots of reds and yellows in the shot I color corrected. Ouch! So, how can I calibrate my screen so I see it the way it will print/ and or the way others will see it? This seems very tricky.....

Hi there.
Is Adobe gamma your graphics provider? In most laptops its either Intel, ATI or Nvidia.
You can set the contrast using your graphics provider utilities software which is usually in the control panel.
Please post back if you need anymore help.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

    Hi again.
No you cannot do that by changing the contrast of the display, you can however edit the the pictures with photo editing software like Adobe photoshop or photoshop essentials.
In most cases the picture prints out looking different to how it looks on the PC, a top of the range printer/scanner can correct the problem but costs a lot of money.
Personally i found that Adobe Photoshop Essentials did the trick when i was editing photo's.

    Kind reagrds

Contrast is too low on hp pavilion g6

This is a faulty gamma setting in the screen driver setup, enter control panel and screen settings you should find something called "color calibration" or enter the screen resolution and select advanced settings or if its possible use the graphic cards own settings panel to adjust the gamma setting.

laptop ot desktop monitor ?

Adjust your monitor's brightness and contrast

You can adjust the brightness and contrast of your monitor to improve the readability of text and to make digital pictures appear more like they'll look when printed.

To improve the results when adjusting the brightness and contrast settings for your display, use Display Color Calibration. (Display Color Calibration helps you adjust these color settings and others.)

The way you adjust brightness and contrast varies and depends on your specific display.

Brightness and contrast buttons on the front of the monitor.

Some monitors have brightness and contrast controls on the front and use the standard symbols shown in the following image.

Brightness and contrast symbols

On-screen menu. You can change the brightness and contrast settings for some displays by using an on-screen menu, and then setting the brightness and contrast in the resulting menu. Many times, you can view the on-screen menu by pressing a button-possibly labeled Menu-on the front of the monitor.

Laptop display. Laptop displays don't have brightness or contrast buttons on the front.

For a majority of laptops, there isn't a control for setting the contrast.

However, you can set the brightness of many laptops by pressing and holding the Fn key, and then pressing a function key to decrease brightness ( ) or increase brightness ( ).

When using Display Color Calibration on a laptop, set the display to the maximum brightness setting.

Adjusting brightness automatically using adaptive brightness

Adaptive brightness is a feature in Windows that uses a light sensor to automatically adjust the display brightness to match the lighting conditions in your computer's surroundings.

To use adaptive brightness, you must have light sensors installed and enabled on your computer.

To determine if your laptop or computer monitor supports adaptive brightness, look for the Enable adaptive brightness setting in Power Options (mentioned in the following procedure) or check the information that came with your computer.

To turn adaptive brightness on or off

Open Power Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then clicking Power Options.

Under any plan, click Change plan settings.

Click Change advanced power settings.

In the list, expand Display, and then expand Enable adaptive brightness.

To turn adaptive brightness on or off when your computer is running on battery power, click On battery, and then, in the list, click On or Off.

To turn adaptive brightness on or off when your computer is plugged into an outlet, click Plugged in, and then, in the list, click On or Off.

Click Apply. Click OK.

hope this helps

Start / Control Panel / Display / Settings / Advanced / Graphics Media Accelerator / Graphics Properties / Schemes

lots of clicks! This should get you what you want. You'll probably have to experiment with settings a little to get what is truly comfortable to you.
If this is helpful, please take a sec to rate me. Thanks!

Contrast really dark but seems to improve after the tv has been on several hours

Hi:
You may have a problem with the inverters in the unit, they are responsible for lighting up the back panel. Check or have checked the power supply voltage to the inverters, should be around 18-24 volts DC. Also leaky capacitors on the power supply will cause this issue as well as leaky or puffy capacitors on the inverter.

I can not find any contrast controls on my Toshiba Satellite A305. On the whole, the colors are dull and wash out. The brightness controls must be set at 100% for any moderately accepable image. But there...

There isn't any contrast controls on TFT screens, it's color response depends on the maker of the panel.
If your PC has a Intel or NVidia graphic card, you can modify some color settings from the video driver like gamma or contrast. For NVidia cards, there is a setting called "Color Vibrance" or "Digital Vibrance", increase that.
On Intel cards, right click on the desktop, go to graphic properties, color correction.
