Question about Video Cameras

Using Panasonic NV-GS250 as a web camera

Tearing my hair out (what’s left of it!!) at the moment. I am trying to install my Panasonic Digital Video Camera NV-GS250 as a Webcam. Panasonic compatibility site clearly indicates that the camera is compatible with my Windows Vista Business Operating System. The camera has two USB functions – Motion DV and Webcam. I have selected each of these and seen pop-ups indicating installation is occurring but that is about it. The purpose, initially is to use the camera as a Webcam with Skype but Skype, whilst appearing to see there is a Webcam, indicates that “Skype did not find the preferred Video Source. Webcam could be in use by another application”. When I open ‘Autoplay’ Panasonic DVC has been added under Devices and set to ‘? Ask me everytime’ but of course this never happens when the camera is connected. When I open ‘Scanners and Cameras’ the Camera is not listed even after ‘Refresh’. When I then ‘Add Device’ I am presented with ‘ Manufacturer – Xerox’ and ‘Model- Xerox Work Centre Pro Scanner’ clearly not Panasonic DVC. Finally when I open ‘Device Manager’ and look at ‘USB Controllers’ ‘USB Composite Device’ has been added, this is removed when Camera is switched off. I have also just connected my Canon Digital Ixus 850 IS and this works a dream with everything operating as expected. So, can you shed any light please before I tear out the rest of my hair. Could there be a problem with Driver compatibility even though I am told ‘You have the latest Driver Installed?

How do I switch off the audio on the Panasonic NV-GS250 so I can record video footage with no sound.

I think this camera has manual audio control.
Use the menu system and set the audio to manual then turn down the audio completely.
Another option is to place a microphone jack into the external mic socket without a mic attached. This will mute the onboard mic.

I don't see any display in my Panasonic PV-GS250 mini DV.. is it a hardware problem?

Did you solve this? Also, could you be more specific? No video on either the LCD or in the viewfinder? Both when trying to record and when playing back a tape?

Using panasonic PV - GS250 with mac

I believe what you are doing is trying to download both video AND photos using the same port. They are two different functions. One connection is under the video door, and the other is in one of the other hidden ports of your camera. Give that a shot. Also, make sure the dial is set on playback (the red videocamera icon) when connecting it to your computer when you transfer the video. This is not the same when transferring photos (which come from the SD card you have, not the tape), and the wheel has to be set to PC.

Good luck!

Panasonic NV-GS250 won't turn on

no spare screws, ever! look for a small pinhole through which to push a pin to reset the device with batteries in.
