Question about Amana ARB2517CC / ARB2517CB / ARB2517CW Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Freezer Quit working

Went to get ice, and the ice had melted. This is a bottom freezer type. The upper section (Refrigerator) seems to e working, but my manual says that the upper section cooling is controlled by the freezer. I have had the back off for 20 minutes, and have not seen the compressor kick on. I have heard a click now and then, but nothing has started. The copper line coming from the compressor is room temp. Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot? I also cleaned out the dust on the coils from under the front of the fridge.
Thanks

Thanks. The unit is 5 yrs and two months old! I read on another posting that you can test the relay with an ohmeter. Am I looking for a short between the pins?...or is it more involved?

Hi, That clicking noise is the relay/overload trying to start the compressor. Is this under 5 years old?
They have had a lot of problem with these. I might suggest you calling Amana and inquire about the warranty.
If the warranty has expired, you can try to replace the relay kit.
If I can assist you further, please let me know.

Thanks
Vic

You will look for an open circuit. Most of the time, you will be able to smell or actually see if it has been overheating

Freezer side not cold enough, similar temperature as Refrigerator side

It could be many things. My first guess would be the defrost. The coil that gets cold in your freezer builds ice on it and the only way to get the ice off is to run a heater near the coil long enough for the ice to melt. All freezers have something built in to defrost and domestic are typically just an electric heater on a timer. When your freezer stops working again, you may want to pull open the panel of your freezer and see if your coil (a heat exchanger that probably looks a lot like your car radiator) is covered in ice. If it is, it could be the timer or the actual heater that is bad.

I agree with your analysis, and recommend that you replace that fan between the two sections.

Make sure you clean the backside of refrigerator at bottom from dust. Make sure you have the recommended clearance from wall. Also make sure the food in freezer and frige have clearance to allow air to circulate around food. Keep playing with your controlls...The dails might be on wrong

Frost in freezer

You can switch off the freezer from time to time to let the ice to melt.

Of course the too much accumulation of ice will affect the freezer.

The upper portion of the freezer turns off, causing the ice to melt. And the cooler side bottom drawer turns into a freezer. I can't figure out what's going on.

You have a frost blocked evaporator. Translation: The cooling coils, located behind the back wall inside the freezer section, have plugged up with frost (usually caused by a burnt out defrost heater, located at the bottom of these coils) which prevents the cold air from circulating inside the freezer, and into the top of the fresh foods section. At the same time, this blocked air flow allows very cold air at the bottom of the freezer section to migrate back into the bottom of the fresh foods section, and thus freeze item in the bottom bins of the refrigerator. Unload the freezer, take the shelves out and remove the back panel. Melt the frost with a hair blower, and change out the heater at the bottom.

Water "pouring" from freezer condenser

sounds like drain in freezer is clogged and has iced over

so when unit goes into defrost water leaks into freezer bottom and freezes

you can either shut off fridge for a day and let ice in drain melt
and hopefully clear line

or u can take back cover off freezer section pour hot water in drain pan and make sure drain hole is cleared and draining down to pan
