Cant ping on a same network

I am unable to ping to another computer. I mean to say, I have a modem that has 4 Lan ports and 3 pc's are connected to the modem. All I do is try to ping any of the computer, I am getting Request Time out, when I try to do the same from the other computer, I get the same error as request time out. However, all the computers could access the internet. Well I have tried disabling the firewall and also checked the setting in the Modem. I found everything is okay. However, I am unable to ping any of the pc. Please help.

Tip

Unable to browse with Windows

While having a computer is great, there are times when you are going to have issues. First, make sure you are connected to the internet. You can do it a few different ways, hook another computer to your modem or router. If you have a wireless router, you can also connect to it via your smart phone or ipod. If these work, then you connection is good and it's your computer.
One of the first steps in seeing where windows is broken. Fist we need to ping a website. This allows you to see if your computer can actually see outword to the internet. Click on start, run, and type in "cmd". You will get a small black box. After the "C:>" type in "ping google.com" You want to see if you get 4 out of 4 replys. This means your computer is connect to the internet and it is able to see news.com.
If this works, next, type in the IP address your were given for google, in my case it was 74.125.47.147, in the address bar of internet explorer. This will tell you if you are having an issue with your browser or not. You can also try getting a different web browser, such as Firefox or Chrome, then run Windows updates.
If you are unable to ping, then check your LAN(local are network) by right clicking on My Network Places, and selecting properties. If your LAN shows as disconnected, right click on it and chose enable. Try pinging again. Also, check your firewalls and turn them off.
There are many other things you can try, but this should be a good overview of some starting steps on fixing an issue where you can not browse

Telephone wall-plate <---- 4-strand telephone-cord ---> telephone-port in modem

AC power from wall-plate to modem.

LAN port #1 <--- Ethernet cable --> network-port on desktop/laptop computer #1.
LAN port #2 <--- Ethernet cable --> network-port on desktop/laptop computer #2.
LAN port #3 <--- Ethernet cable --> network-port on desktop/laptop computer #3.
LAN port #4 <--- Ethernet cable --> network-port on desktop/laptop computer #4.

Configure the router's wireless adapter:
* set a SSID
* set an encryption-level, e.g., 'WPA'
* set a network password

Use the SSID/password to configure your wireless devices (iPod Touch, iPad, XBOX 360, etc.)

Hi, I am trying to install D-Link router WBR-1310 but getting the error code 101 IP address not maching. What do you suggest?

Use the PING command to test the communication between the computer and the gateway.

Goto Start > Run and enter COMMAND.
From the Command Prompt, enter PING 192.168.0.1.
The gateway should reply.

Verify that the residential gateway is getting power. With the broadband modem connected to the WAN port on the gateway, you should have a soild WAN link light. You should use the same cable that connected the modem to the PC to connect the modem to the WAN port on the gateway. Any port on the gateway that has a computer connected to it should have the corresponding LAN link light lit. If you do not get the appropriate link lights, try using different cables.

onfigure browser/Internet Options
Step 1 Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel.

Step 2 Double-click the Internet Options icon.

Step 3 On the Security tab click Restore the default security level.

Step 4 Click the Connection tab and set the dial-up option to Never Dial a Connection.

Step 5 Click LAN Settings. Nothing should be checked. If anything is checked, uncheck it. Click OK.

Step 6 Click the Advanced tab and then click Restore these settings to their defaults.

Step 7 Click OK.

Step 1 Turn the Cable/DSL modem off.

Step 2 Turn the D-Link router off.

Step 3 Wait 60 seconds.

Step 4 Turn the cable/DSL modem back on and wait until all the lights are steady.

Step 5 Turn the D-Link router on.

Most routers and modems do not have an on/off switch. Simply unplug the power. Unplugging the power will not reset (reset back to default settings) the unit.

    Internet connection work fine on WiFI, but connections from desktop, connecte with cable to router LAN port does not work

    Either you are connected to a different wireless network or the connection from the modem to the router is incorrect.... Make sure that the other end of the cable from the modem is connected to the WAN/Internet port of the router. If you have this kind of connection already, try checking the TCP/IP properties of the computer connected to the LAN port, make sure that it is set to obtain an IP address automatically...

    Unable to connect with dlink300 router

    You must configure first its settings both on your network card and router. See you manual.

    First you must connect your internet directly to the computer then get its DNS settings, jot it down. Then connect the router lanport1 to lan card port of your computer using LAN cable. Under lan properties goto TCP/IP settings input the default IPaddress 192.168.0.1 of the router then its subnet mask commonly 255.255.255.0, the router's default gateway, input the DNS settings of your ISP 2 of the set.

    Then goto default router's utility web. Open internet explorer, key in router's ip add 192.168.0.1 you should go to router's configuration log in user = admin, pass = just hit enter. Set your time and date then save. You could also test its connection by pinging the IP address of router. on windows DOS. Type ping 192.168.0.1 you should get 4 lines.

    If everything is set. Connect the internet cable(UTP/LAN cable) to its WAN port of the router then test to browse the internet. If not then change the DNS settings with the remaining set (on Lan setting).

    If I miss something just leave a comment.

    Most of DSL modems are connected to PC with USB cable...
    n if ur server is connected with other pc on lan .. you can use internet sharing option available in winxp.

    Following are the steps to enable Internetsharing for other pcs.

    How to use Internet Connection Sharing loadTOCNode(2, 'summary'); To use Internet Connection Sharing to share your Internet connection, the host computer must have one network adapter that is configured to connect to the internal network, and one network adapter or modem that is configured to connect to the Internet.

    On the host computer loadTOCNode(3, 'summary'); On the host computer, follow these steps to share the Internet connection:
    1. Log on to the host computer as Administrator or as Owner.
    2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    3. Click Network and Internet Connections.
    4. Click Network Connections.
    5. Right-click the connection that you use to connect to the Internet. For example, if you connect to the Internet by using a modem, right-click the connection that you want under Dial-up.
    6. Click Properties.
    7. Click the Advanced tab.
    8. Under Internet Connection Sharing, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.
    9. If you are sharing a dial-up Internet connection, select the Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box if you want to permit your computer to automatically connect to the Internet.
    10. Click OK. You receive the following message: When Internet Connection Sharing is enabled, your LAN adapter will be set to use IP
      address 192.168.0.1. Your computer may lose connectivity with other computers on
      your network. If these other computers have static IP addresses, it is a good idea to set them
      to obtain their IP addresses automatically. Are you sure you want to enable Internet
      Connection Sharing?
    11. Click Yes.
    The connection to the Internet is shared to other computers on the local area network (LAN). The network adapter that is connected to the LAN is configured with a static IP address of 192.168.0.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

    let me know if it helps.

    best regards,

    Unable to connect properly on LAN

    Showing connected only means there is an active cable attached to the network port.
    You will need to check the laptop to see if it should have it's IP address assigned manually or is being assigned by the router/hub in your network using DHCP.

    Hope that helps.
