Question about Sony Part 996804671 Service Manual for 996804671
I have a sony cdpca9-es CD player which gives a "no disc" error on the front panel, even when a disc is present. I have pulled the case off and found that the laser is working, but the disc motor doesn't rotate the disc. The problem is mostly constant, though occasionally the problem goes away, then reappears. I have tried turning the unit off and on to reset the electronics, cleaning the laser lens and trying different CD's without any change in the problem. The behavior seems like it might be a bad solder connection or a problem in one of the flexible circuit boards inside the unit. All the other functions of the player work fine; it just won't play!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your optic is out of align. If it's an expensive unit, it may be worth repair. When you send it out, they just replace the transport. Average cost between $100-$150 thru Sony direct. Hope this helps.
