SC 542 is for fusing unit, touch yellow/clear key then press 1 0 7 and hold down "Stop" key for 10 second. LCD screen will change, turn off the machine from the main switch (not the top panel switch) wait for five second turn it ON. If code comes back then you need a thermistor or a fuse.

The 542 is a fusing thermistor error code.
Basically, there is a little thermistor in the hot section of the machine what senses how hot the machine gets too. Sometimes toner particals can get clogged up on the thermistor. Luckily though, this error can be reset on almost all ricoh machines.
(yellow clear), (1), (0), (7), (red stop * 5secs)
Make sure you hold the red stop button for 5 seconds, and make sure you enter this code while you are in copy mode.
Your screen will change, showing a few different SP modes,
Hold the hash button, and choose Copy SP
The screen will change once more, at this point simply turn the machine of at the main power.
This will reset your error code =] If the code decides to come back again it might be a good idea to get the machine checked out by a certified ricoh rep.
