Question about Philips 50PFP5332D 50 in. Plasma Television
My tv "clicks' when I turn it on and takes more than a minute for screen to appear- troubleshooting guide says backlight is failing. Can I replace it myself or take it to repair shop?
Honestly, this does not have any real affect on the future performance or operation of the TV so it may not be worth investing in unless you are very bothered by it.
The backlight is something that is not easily repaired by a novice and extremely expensive to repair in general(more or equal to the cost of a new TV).
Good news is that these manuals are written by people who don't have an exact concept of how the words are interpretted. For example, the manual says "the backlight is failing" which means the backlight should be replaced. I am sure it was meant to say "the backlight components are failing" which may mean only a board or small compenent that affects the backlight needs replacing. This may be much cheaper.
