Question about Toshiba DKT-2020 Corded Phone
I bought a toshiba dkt 2020 phone on ebay. It has old numbers programmed in it and only works on speaker phone. I swapped out the phone with another one and now it's doing the same thing. I was trying to setup headset at the time.
I'm having the same problem-- I have several phones that do not have a working hook switch. Is there a way to repair/fix this myself? Or is it something I'm just going to have to pay to have someone fix?

These phones do not store information of any kind. All the programming and memory is in the phone system itself.
The phone only works in speakerphone mode because the hook switch is broken. It is a VERY common problem that will happen to all of these Toshiba DKT2000 series phones at some point. The hook switch starts out just disconnecting calls and eventually will not let you use the handset at all. Unfortunately the problem can actually get worse even when the phone is not in use. That is why buying this series used is dangerous. Make sure the seller has replaced the hook switch and try to get a warranty.

I have a bit of bad news... your hook switch is bad. It's extremely common for this model phone and every single one will eventually have the problem. Unfortunately the problem starts out intermittently hanging up on callers and people do not understand what is happening. They get frustrated and replace their entire system... This is where most of the used phones come from so most used, even most "refurbished" phones of this type have the problem or will within a few months to a year.
I have repaired many thousands of these phones and it is so common that I am completely sure this is the case. Your phone has progressed to the point where the switch no longer (or rarely) works. Unfortunately the switch continues to go bad even in storage so the phone may have worked to some degree the last time it was used.
Our repair service is listed in the FIXYA repair directory for the USA. If you are interested you can find us by entering your zip code to the repair search box usually on the right edge of the FIXYA screen.
For you problem with stored numbers... the DKT2020 does not have any memory at all. All features, settings and information is stored in the main phone system so any stored numbers, names, etc.. are on your phone system for the port you connected the phone to.
