Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

When booting, the screen shows the normal Dell display, but then turns black. The mouse/touchpad cursor/arrow is the only visible item on the screen. It moves about in the normal manner. I cannot see my desktop, and nothing happens when I right-klick my mousebutton. At bootup, I can access the system (visible on the screen) and adjust onboard devices, video, security, performance, etc. but as soon as I continue, the screen returns to black. Jan from Sydney

Hi,

Try boot to a last known good, Reboot, keep tapping constantly F8 or F2,
or usually F12, function keys
keep tapping until the " black " startup screen appears, top of the list is " last known good "
Take this offer, let it roll, see how it reacts,

or,
Try a system restore in safe mode, same steps as above,
Choose " safe mode " this time, at the " black start up screen " ( you have limited graphics here )
then system restore, start, accessories, system tools, system restore, to an earlier point in time.
see how it reacts to this.

Hope this helps
Regards
Richard.

My dell ins iron cursor is frozen. All solutions I read talk about clicking on various items in control panel - how can I do that when cursor will not move?

To be able to click on control panel options when your cursor does not move would require an EXTERNAL mouse. On notebook PCs, you will need a USB mouse.
It's a;so possible to use just the keyboard by pressing TAB and the arrow keys to switch between icons but is very difficult. USB mouse is the way to go. Most likely, you will have to disconnect the USB mouse at some point during troubleshooting to test the touchpad.

I have a Dell laptop computer with Windows Vista Basic. The mouse on the screen has become very sensitive and sometimes it clicks on an item when it scrolls across the screen. How can I make it less...

    1. Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize > Mouse Pointers . The Mouse Properties settings window will open.
    2. Alternately, click Start and type Mouse in the Search field, and select Mouse when it becomes available in the program list. The Mouse Properties settings window will open.
    3. Select the Device Settings tab. Select the Synaptics TouchPad device and click Settings . In the Properties for Synaptics TouchPad window, expand the Sensitivity topic.
    4. Select the PalmCheck option to adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad to avoid erratic cursor movement caused by accidental touching of the pad during normal typing.
    5. Select the Touch Sensitivity option to adjust how much finger pressure is required to move the mouse on the screen and how responsive the touchpad is to taps.

My cursor on my Dell inspiron 1525 laptop is stuck in the middle of my screen the touch pad isn't working either I was wondering how i could fix this

Try an external mouse. You might have to turn off the touchpad in BIOS (F2 key on boot will get you into setup). Look for Mouse/Touchpad under 'Post Behavior' or perhaps elsewhere (differently displayed in various BIOS setups).

Dell Inspiron 1501 Touchpad locked up

Check the system setup F2 at start, and ensure the touchpad is enabled, next try an external mouse, see if it works.
If and external mouse works, the touch pad has failed and a new palmrest is needed.

Touchpad and cursor keys quit working

I used to get this problem. It is VERY annoying as you must know. try pushing the windows icon button in the top right corner of your keyboard(thats where it is on my keyboard)then use your arrow keys to scroll up to control panel, select mouse by using arrow keys and then use the tab and arrow keys to open the mouse keypad pagetab and push enable and enter key to turn it on.
IF WHEN YOU DO THAT AND your in the touchpad properties but there is no 'enable' and it says no hardware detected, then go into the same mouse window from the control panel and go to the hardware tab and either try to update driver or use the trouble shoot button.

    Hope this helped =]

    Dell Cursor Typing Blinking Problem

this is because you must deactivate your touchpad. you can do this by holding the Fn key and pressing the F* key that shows a picture of a touchpad in the same color as the Fn.
    or you can go to control panel and turn it off in the mouse settings. but just attaching a mouse will allow the touchpad to stay active and therefore still be sensitive enough for your hand to "tap" th cursor.;
Good luck and pls rank this response! :D
