Shows full charge but dies within one song

I have an 80 GB Zune that I have never been able to turn off. Every time the battery drains I recharge it. This last time it wouldn't charge. I read online advise that to turn it off you push the back arrow and down (wish I knew that earlier), and to restart push the back arrow and down. I restarted, and left it charging for 24 hours. It finally said it was synching and the battery showed a full charge. I unplugged it, turned it on, and 10 seconds into the song it died completely. When I plug it into the computer is shows full battery, when I unplug it to play I haven't gotten more than a song and a half out of it before it goes black with no response until I plug it back into the computer. This is so frustrating! What can I do? Thanks, Tammy

You have drained your battery, most likely from charging it when it did not need to be charged, or by leaving it on the charger for way to long.
If that IS the case, you need to either void all warrentys you may have, and take the zune a part, and replace the battery.
Or you have to buy a new one.
I had the same problem, but mine was still under the 1 year microsoft warrenty, so i got it replaced.
Maybe you could do the same.
Have a nice day.

I have an 80 gb zune that only shows the backlight

Ok, so I just recently had this same problem. I m not gonna lie, I dropped mine and only the back light came on. but, I did a hard reset which is back key, and up key at the same time. then it wouldnt even play music. So I attached it to my laptop to let it sync with my zune. then I charged it. And put it in "deep sleep mode" which is back button and down on the directional pad. after that i turned it on, and started hitting some random keys. And now it works, except I dont know what song is playing till i hear. But it will buy me time at least. best of luck.

My zune doesnt turn on and when i try connecting to my computer at times it doesnt recognize it and when it recognises it the battery shows empty and begins to charge when charge is complete and i unplugg...

If you had this Zune for a long time this will happen at times because the batteries are rechargeable instead of batteries but if it doesn't turn on you could reset it by pressing the middle button and pressing the up button at the same time.

Zune 80 gig will not start

My 80 Zune has a frozen screen as well... This is ludicrous! Well this is how this problem should be resolved:

  1. Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources.
  2. Because the player is frozen, its battery will drain—this is good. Wait until the battery is empty and the screen goes black. If the battery was fully charged, this might take a couple of hours.
  3. Wait until after noon GMT on January 1, 2009 (that's 7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time).
  4. Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your computer or to AC power using the Zune AC Adapter and let it charge.
I cannot believe the savvy programmers for Zune did not identify this problem in advance... Well I guess we are all human lol... Can't wait to begin listening to my music again!

Have a Happy New Year!

ZUNE NOT WORKING! ONLY BLACK SCREEN! WONT CHARGE!

Listen everyone this is what happened to me and what I did. Let the battery drain completely (unplugged from computer). It usually takes 5 to 6 hours to drain completely.
Then plug back in and hold the back and down button at the same time. Zune should resume functioning afterwards. All that is needed is a recharge.

Zune charging problems, hardware problems

I had a 30g w/same problem. I installed the Zune software from CD. Plugged the Zune into my USB jack and waited hrs for the full screen battery icon to go away. It never did. Here is what I did to fix it. I left the Zune disconnected until its battery drained and the lcd went dark. In this state, pressing the play/pause button, caused the full screen battery icon to appear briefly before the lcd went dark again. With the Zune disconnected from my xp pc, I ran Windows Update in express mode. I have Windows system restore and auto-update turned off and rarely update my pc, so I also took the opportunity to take a manual system check-point (so I could restore from the check-point if an update trashed my pc). I took and installed all the latest Windows updates. When it was done, I had all the latest security updates and IE 7. At this point I went to http://www.zune.net/en-us/products/zunesoftware/download.htm and downloaded the latest Zune software. I installed the Zune software update. I ran the new Zune software on my PC and found the device tab. NOW I connected the Zune to a USB port on the back of my PC. The full screen battery icon appeared on the Zune but nothing appeared in the Zune software. I left it this way for a few minutes. It occurred to me that I might get more power through the USB port if I turned off my other external USB devices, which I did. Within a few minutes, the Zune FINALLY came to life and a Zune splash screen appeared on the device. The device booted and was FINALLY recognized by the Zune software on my PC. Shortly after that I noticed that it already started synchronizing with my PC music collection. I figured it would charge up and download my entire collection (20gig) so I grabbed some sleep for a few hours. When I returned, the PC was asleep too. Unfortunately, the Zune was not charged and had stopped sync'ing. Not to be discouraged, I woke up the PC, exited the Zune software and left the device charging for an hour or so. When I returned, the device was about 80% charged. I quickly disconnected and played my first music video on the device!!!! I reconnected (the Zune software auto-launched) and left it sync'ing and charging for a while longer. When it was 100% charged, I disconnected and have been using it for a few hours. It was a long painfull road to get this thing setup, but it was WELL WORTH IT! I am already a huge fan of this device. In fact, I'm considering passing this one on to my wife so I can get the 80gig. Hang in there, it's worth it!!!!

PS: one sidebar -- I have noticed that the pc software will only sync about 800 songs in a session. I have simply been restarting the sync to get the next session going. At this point, I am fully synchronized and have 4.5 gig free.

My Zune is Not responding

after much research on this matter in the past few hours. To resolve this situation don't shut the zune down by holding play/pause button it does not shut down properly that way.

Hold down the down & back button down until shuts off....zune recommends as the best way to turn off your zune. Also if you are having problems holding charge, a lot of people replaced the original charge plug and found that it worked again. these cables usually become faulty from previous models and 30gigs. So buy a new cable & shut it down correctly.

Still no worky??? Call zune, within 1 year they will accept it for repairs. They may even send you a new refurbished zune...since they no longer are making the 30 gig...probably for those reasons.

I hope this advice not only helps you but myself. Who wants an expensive paperweight...not I!
