Yes in most cases this is an easy fix, but I suggest you take it to a tech. Televisions can sometimes hold an electrical charge even after being unplugged. For your safety, it is better to take it to a repair shop. The cost varies depending on your area of the country. Good luck.

The 'out' cable got ripped off of the receiver box :(. The cable came completely out, leaving the metal adapter end cap attached to the receiver. Can I resplice this back together myself?

throw the old screw end away, it will only provide you with more headaches if you use it. Buy some coaxial connections from the store for about 3 bucks.....you cant get the wrong thing if you just bring the old end and match them up.
Cut the old cable line clean and strip about 2 inches back and install the end cap......If you dont have a "coaxial cable crimper" then get the connections that screw into the cable.....should say it on the package.....
Screw in the connector to the cable and connect it to the system and Viola good to go

My TV turns on, but I have no sound

Hello,

If your television works and you are not having any sound, first check if your volume is not on the lowest, or if the television is not on mute, if after checking and you see that its not on mute or on the lowest volume, then it simply means the sound IC of the television is bad and need to be replaced.

To replace the sound IC, you will have to get a screw driver to unscrew the screws at the back of the television, then a cup to put the screws in, then a glove to protect your hand from any kind of shock, then you unscrew the back cover of the television, and trace the wires that are at the back of the speakers to the main board they are connected to, that is the sound IC of the television and that is the board that needs to be replaced.

An alternative or temporary solution that could last you as long as you want is for you to connect the television to an amplifier, using the 3.5mm to RCA cables. connect the 3.5mm to RCA cable (it has a headphone plug on one end and 2prongs RED and WHITE on the other end) to the television, use the selector on the amplifier to select the tune you put the prongs, then you will have the sound coming off from the speakers connected to the amplifier.

Take care and good luck
I hope this is helpful

No picture or sound/wont power up

Your mainboard is damaged, the mainboard is the one where you plug all the cables (component HDMI), it is really easy to replace, you only need to take special care with the screws.
1. remove all screws in the back.
2. unplugg all cables from mainboard.
3. remove all srews from mainboard and replace it.
4. put all screws back and then plug all cables again.
5. double check all mainboard cables are properly secured.
6. Test TV.
7. put the back cover and secure it with the screws.

8. Enjoy your TV again.
