You have to connect the Dell to the Toshiba and then press the Fn key + one of the function keys eg Fn+F7(there should be a monitor symbol on it.)

A cooked GPU will cause that. If it has overheated, there are companies that can replace it but may be time to budget for a replacement motherboard or laptop.

I would like to boot a toshiba satellite m105-s30401 with an external monitor as the laptop screen is busted and i would like to use an external monitor until i get a replacement screen, how do i get

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

If you can't replace the switch, go to your power settings and set the option for action to take when the lid is closed to none.

The monitor does not work on Satellite L305-S5921, I can hook up an external monitor and that works.

The display needs to be replaced or the display plug is unplugged at the motherboard has a short in it.The video card sounds to be working fine.I would guess the display needs to be replaced.

Monitor will not light up, laptop works fine using external monitor

The screen could be cracked or broken altogether from pixel damage. If so, there's not much you can do to fix it. Check your settings and put them at the lowest resolution and lowest quality settings while connected to an external monitor. Good Luck!

Try Microsoft updates, failing that go to manufacture website and search for graphics drivers for your machine. It could also be your OS. Sounds like its a dowmloaded one which may not support what you want...Hope this helps...

You have to disable the hibernation mode. Sounds like this is the problem. Go to Start - Control Panel - Performance and Maintenance - Power Options - click on Hibernate tab and uncheck where it says Enable Hibernation. This should fix the problem. Cheers
