Black screen after Acer Arcade installed...can't find safe mode
I have an acer 5920g i pressed the Acer Arcade button whilst powered down and allowed the installation of the Acer Arcade. Since then I get a Black Screen. Acer Arcade still works when i press the arcade button from power down status and can find my music files etc with no problem.
I haven't yet been able to find safe mode, i can't get into BIOS, I can get into the Boot menu but there is nothing in there that i can change that would make any difference.
Can anyone help me as it is slightly infuriating as my GF and wee baby lives abroad and Skype is my only option to contact them

Hi Lenny, not god news Im afraid, it sounds as though either your screen or your graphics chip are faulty. Help is at hand though, you could try connecting to an external monitor, but as your laptop is switching off, it is unlikely that this will work any better. You can remove the hard drive any install it into another machine, this should be straight forward, although if the machine in question does not have the corect connections then you will need a caddy. these are pretty cheap and plug into usb allowing access to the data on the drive. Hope this helps.
Restart the Acer Aspire netbook by pressing the "power" button on the netbook's keyboard or by pressing the "CTRL," "ALT" and "DEL" keys at the same time.
During startup, hold down the "F8" function key immediately when you see the "Acer" splash screen and the option for entering "Setup."
Keep pressing the "F8" key until the "Advanced Boot Options" menu appears. If you receive a "keyboard error," restart the Acer Aspire and repeat step 2.
Use the arrow keys to navigate to the "Safe Mode" selection on the "Advanced Boot Options" menu. The arrow keys are located on the right-hand side of the Acer Aspire keyboard.
Press the "Enter" key to execute the "Safe Mode" selection. The Windows operating system will now start in "Safe Mode" and you can perform a system restore or make needed changes to get your Acer Aspire to boot normally again.

your computer your laptop will just shut itself down and get a black
screen unexpectedly, which is due to: power overload in theAC adapter,
overheated processor / clogged fan, overheated battery, pushing the
power button, Windows telling it to, the BIOS telling it to, loose wires
(especially the power cord), or intermittent short circuits. The most
common problem is cooling. the battery should be removed from the laptop
and allowed to cool to room temperature before attempting to use again.
boot into Windows' Safe Mode; press F8 before the Windows loading screen appears to get this option.
Once signed in, you'll be prompted to a) continue in Safe Mode, or b) Restore a previous install point.
Choose option b) and then follow the instructions. If the same problem (black screen after Windows has started up) persists once you've rebooted, sign in with Safe Mode again and restore to an earlier install point.
change the Automatic Update to notify before installing.
What is happening when you press the power Button? Do you see any ligths, Any HDD moves? IF DOES.
TURN OFF by pressing and holding your finger on power button.
wait 60 sec. turn on and repeatedly press several times at F8 button.
If page opens on black and white, Use SAFE MODE.
wait til all line down. Then you will see windows opening in safe mode.
WHat ever you install last, remove, scan your computer for virus, spyware. when its finished, check your computer if need defragmentation. by Accessories>System Tools> Defragment.
If message comes such as windows will do this at schedule time or so.
Just turn off your computer using shotdown option (NOT BROWN BUTTON ON START) go to next arrow.
then turn on again see if windows comes back.
if you can boot into safe mode by pressing f8 at startup, check the startup folder for acer arcade and remove it if present. From your start button go to (start-programs-startup).
another option is to check the run key in the registry: one caveat though - please don't mess with things in the registry you don't understand. Deleting or changing unknown registry keys can result in a non-booting pc.
please stick strictly to my instructions and you will be fine. We're going to look and see if windows is calling the acer arcade to run at boot time:
click your start button and type 'regedit' (no quotes in the start search field. A window titled 'registry editor' will appear. Now, to expand a field in the registry, we left-click on the triangle on the left side of the field.
so, click the triangle beside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE go down to 'software' and click the triangle beside it. go down to Microsoft and click the triangle, go to windows and click the triangle, go to current version and click the triangle, go to run and click on the run folder, not the triangle beside it.
Now look in the list of items in the run folder. these are all items that run when your pc boots. If you see an item with 'acer arcade' or just 'arcade' in the name, then delete it. DO NOT DELETE ANY OTHER REGISTRY KEYS....PLEASE! if you found acer arcade and removed it then reboot and all should be better. if not, boot to safe mode again, click start button and type in 'msconfig' - no quotes. go to the startup tab, and again only uncheck anything with acer arcade in the name.
