Welcome to Fixya.
Your error code req 0040 means the Pump/Cap/Cleaning assembly has reached the end of its life and will soon fail. This is a major replacement part and it is typically more cost effective to replace your printer rather than repair.
You can continue to print, but soon you will experience leaking ink, damaged hardware and poor prints.
Here is the solution for your prob. Turn Off your printer then press the Left, Down arrow and Enter simultaneously then power On the printer. inside initialize the sponge and cleaner then turn Off and On your printer.
You have to replace your pump cap assembly if it is already poor in cleaning otherwise your printhead will suffer.
Thanks for using Fixya.

The codes should be in the owners manual. Otherwise go to the web site in the support area. Type in the printer model then look for error codes support.

Service Request errors in the range 00010004 - 000101D are related to a carriage movement problem. In some instances like paper jams, the carriage locking tab may be partially pushed in, causing the carriage locking mechanism to put a drag on the carriage or lock the carriage completely. This will cause a carriage error. Make sure the carriage locking tab is pulled to the left. Then turn the printer's power off and release the carriage by pushing down on the cutter blade. Slide the carriage to the left and look for any paper that also may be restricting the carriage from moving freely.

Tips for a great answer:
In most cases the printer driver software can have errors while being in use or is shut down. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now check the printer properties to see the ink levels.
Activate head cleaning before a test is taken . Sometimes it is possible that the head is not reacting to the need of the PC command or can be an issue with ink drying or poor ink cartridge contacts. Sometimes the power supply unit must be checked as a poor SMPS unit can deliver low voltage and cause issues to the printer function. Check all the leads and connections of the mother board , the tags to the ink cartridge. Also check the mechanical settings of the ink cartridge , if jammed or tight remove motor and manually free the drive before it is set back.
