Do I need both cables for windows machine or can the USB connected to the machine and the mini dp plugged into the monitor work by itself

Is this an external monitor cable? Where the monitor cable that connects to the computer has two USB cables attached at one end?

If so, no. You do not need to plug both ends in. If one is powering the monitor fine and you see no performance problem occurring with the monitor you are OK to plug in just one.

The extra USB end connected to the cable is for additional power supply. If for some reason the machine you are plugging into does not supply enough power to the external monitor you would plug the second end it to the machine and boost the power to the monitor.

Hope that helps.

Wavy diag lines moving on monitor?

First, try a different monitor to eliminate that its just the monitor
If the other monitor comes on fine, that will show your monitor may need replacing.
You can also try the degauss button on your monitor screen (icon looks like a magnet)

If the monitor power light is on or flashing, but nothing displays, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor needs replaced.

No, a CRT or regular Flat monitor are dumb. You need a TV card in order to hook it up.

Monitor says no signal

If you have truly connected the monitor to the machine, and the machine is on, make sure that your monitor is not set to the wrong type of input. Many monitors accept DVI and VGA, and having it set to the wrong one will not allow you to see your input.
If that's all squared away, your machine may be having difficulty outputting video. This can be a bad video card, a faulty system board, etc... Test with another monitor if you can. This will help you determine whether it is the monitor or the machine.

Just got a new computer (compaq) and I am unable to connect the monitor to the desktop. Any suggestions? Is there an adapter that I can buy to allow me to use the e-machines monitor?

Typically it depends on the monitor and the connectors on the back of said monitor. Most model monitors that came out within the past 3-5 years have a usb port, hdmi, D-sub, DVI, or just a basic Analog connector. If you can identify the Connection on the back of your monitor and a video connector on your compaq machine as well I can Recommend a specific adapter for you. Also check out some electronic websites for further help.

Is e machine compatable with HP monitor?

Hey!

As long as you have the right cable and same ports to plug in the cable from the computer to the monitor, you can use any type of monitor. So more likely, you can use a HP monitor on your E-machine system.

Hope this helps! :D

When I turn on computer, the blue light comes on and the computer makes sounds as if it is starting and the monitor light is yellow. If I turn the monitor off and then back on, the screen says something...

No input usually indicates the machine is having trouble getting a video signal from the monitor. Check and make sure the monitor cable is connected properly. If you have another monitor also test the machine with another monitor.
