I have a new Dell computer using Windows 7 andd have installed software Camedia Master 4.1 for my C-740 camera. The master page can be accessed but when I try to download photos from camera using the USB...

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Windows Photo Gallery or any other photo cataloging program.

CAMEDIA MASTER 4.0 is Unable to detect an Olympus digital camera with USB connection

You did not mention which OS you are using... However, there is an update to
Camedia Master 4.2 which you could download, install and test.

Alternatively you could install and check the free and newer Olympus Viewer software...

I can't figure this out. I am computer dumb and my husband always did this stuff for me but he died last year.I am trying to get the photos I took into my laptop so I can send them.

Ok this is an easy one.. You need to get a USB cable and software. The download link below, is for the driver, you install this Driver, as administrator, right click, install .exe and select run as Administrator
Now after you install the software you plug in the camera to the PC, via the USB port, (any) and then turn the camera on, it should be detected and then you run the software and "Get" you pictures. Also to help i recommend you get a Picture resizer, and use it to make the pictures the right size to send.. Link below, get it and down load and install, like before, then when you wish to resize a picture, you right click, and select resize.. follow instruction, then you can "Attach" the Picture to an Email.
If you don't have the cable etc. get one from say below to give you the idea.

No, it is saying that the hardware isn't being recognized which is done before any software applications run. The problem might be a dirty connection, static electricity on the motherboard, or a bad cable. Try:\

  1. turning the computer off by unplugging it after the OS shuts down, waiting about 30 seconds and staring it up fresh.
  2. Removing the cable and putting it back in.
  3. Blowing some canned air into the connection when the computer is turned off.
  4. Using a different USB port.
  5. Using a different USB cable.
Good luck!

I just spoke to Olympus Tech Support.

You have to download Olympus Master 2. (Their program is no longer called Camedia Master.)

At their main site, search for olympus master 2.

Camedia software to see my camera via the USB port.

I'm assuming a Windows Machine (98 or 2000), and that you have (known to be) working USB ports. Boot your computer. Plug the computer end of the USB cable directly into the computer USB port (not a hub). Turn off the camera. Plug the camera end of the USB cable into the 3000. Then turn on the 3000. Windows should recognize new hardware. When Windows asks about drivers for the new hardware, direct it to your Camedia CD. Probably directory \USB\Win98 (or 2000) or something similar. Windows should then load the driver automatically. I *don't* think the 3000 will show up as a Drive device in My Computer. I think only the 2040/3040/E10 models will. But, Camedia should see it now. Toward the left-hand side (center) of the Camedia screen you should see a camera icon. Click it and it should open directories, drill down till your pix appear as thumbnail images. If Camedia says it can't find the camera, select Edit/Options/Download from the Camedia menu and ensure that USB is the selected choice.
